Isn’t trump and the GOP using fear of economic hardship as a means of controlling/forcing people back to work? What is or is not “premature” is determined by medical experts NOT you or I. Those experts disagree with you. Why should your personal opinion be used as any sort of benchmark? Who are you to tell others what to do? |
We've been hearing the "this area first' argument for weeks. We are getting data in from other countries that show the death rate is much lower than 1%. Seems there are a lot of asymptomatic people |
We have over 5 MILLION people on unemployment. They are using reality. What if those medical experts are wrong? Their models sure have been. I'm all for letting the governors of the states to decide. They then get to own the repercussions in their own states. Works for me. |
While that's a nice thought, but we tell each other what to do all the time. There has never been a human society that has not controlled people to at least some extent. You are right that fear is a powerful means of control. That's how people are. Deal with it. |
I wish Trump and GOP Senate leadership shared your concerns. |
Depends a lot on what data you look at. And then it depends on what you think is an "acceptable" death rate. |
Then the fact is, the attending doctor determines cause of death and those doctors said it was Covid. The end. |
No I am not comfortable doing that. Every decision involves a tradeoff. We can have a discussion about what is worth what, but there is no one right answer. There never will be. Right now, I think it is best we pay people not to work. So take your check and watch Tiger King. |
The models weren't wrong. Social distancing is working. |
why doesn’t NYC make this obvious to people? |
I don't want that either, which is why I am happy we are giving enhanced unemployment benefits to those who lose their jobs. |
+1 |
Enhanced unemployment doesn’t pay all the bills. Enhanced unemployment doesn’t stop the rise in domestic abuse, substance abuse, depression and suicide that comes with being forced into seclusion. I imagine you probably have a nice house, people keeping you company and a secure job. Everyone is not as lucky. |
Enhanced unemployment covers a mutlitude of evils. You are a lot less likely to commit suicide if you have money coming in than if you don't. If it doesn't cover all the bills, then we should increase it. As for all those mental health problems, our country has a horrible system for handling mental health. All those problems have been at epidemic levels for years and we have done very little about it. I'm all for an immediate and massive expansion of mental health services to deal with all that, even in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic. But that won't happen. In the meantime, I'm not going to confuse a job with a mental health service. And if we are going to go on about all these indirect effects, the overall crime rate is down and the accident rate is down. I imagine your father didn't beat your mother and you never pointed a gun at your own head. Everyone is not so unlucky. |
They are typical Trumpsters, a bunch of nazis.
