Amazing photo! People risking their lives to vote. |
Me again. Also worthy of note is the suburban Milwaukee Counties- Waukesha, Ozaukee, Washington, known colloquially as the “WOW Counties.” These traditionally have been THE Republican stronghold in the state, even as suburban areas around the country trend blue. They shifted pretty significantly to the left in this election, particularly Ozaukee County which is the most educated and wealthy of the three. Kelly only won Ozaukee County by 12 points, which sounds like a lot but in the pre-Trump era it almost always went at least 2/3 Republican no questions asked. Even if we can never fully flip the WOW counties, even small shifts to the left make it VERY difficult for Trump to win. |
All Americans should receive a voting mask.
Maybe Bloomberg can supply them to the governors to distribute. |
Thanks ME! Excellent news. |
Thanks for taking the time to lay all this out for us, PP. Very interesting posts. |
Why not - a mask is about as effective at stopping coronavirus as those "I voted" stickers they hand out. |
Bernie staying in for that race definitely made a difference, and I’m not fond of Bernie. Biden and Warren also endorsed her and urged their primary voters to vote for her as well. Here’s Bernie’s call script, from the giant Ben Wikler thread above: |
People would rather risk dying than live under an illegitimate Republican administration that relies on voter suppression, gerrymandering, and ratf#cking to eek out victories.
If you get rid of absentee ballots and the US postal service, I will show up in a garbage bag, gas mask, and rubber kitchen gloves to vote you out of office. Be warned, Republicans. All of us are coming for you. |
So amazing that the Democrat won! But the court is still 4-3 republican. Does this mean Wisconsin will remain ridiculously gerrymandered to favor republicans? |
Well, the maps are drawn by the legislature (which Reps hold both house and senate) and then Tony Evers, who is the Democratic governor, has the power to either veto or approve the new maps after the 2020 census is done. So there is a good likelihood that we get fair maps — thank goodness Wisconsin made the right choice for gov in 2018! |
+1 and if this is still current Wisconsin does NOT have a veto-proof majority in the state legislature. |
Thanks for the explainer! |
There is actually a possibility that the Republicans get a veto-proof majority in the state senate — currently the makeup is 19-14 and there are two open seats up in 2020 that were just narrowly won by Dems in ‘16 that republicans are just clamoring for the pickup. Also a seat up for election that was won by a Dem during a special election in 2018 that will be tough. However, the assembly should be fine. Fingers crossed! Politics-wise, living in Wisconsin does my blood pressure no favors lol |
One of the "republican" judges has indicated voting with the Dems on election/voter roll issues. |
