Im guessing that by now he could’ve printed his call history from that night with #s redacted besides his manager’s? Idk..I understand where folks are coming from when they say that they wouldn’t turn their phone over, but there are less intrusive ways to confirm that info for the police, and they’re not time consuming.
Maybe that has happened. It’s not like we are getting a play by play of the investigation. It’s not like the police have said he is not cooperating.

Serious question, what would they be looking for on his phone?

My gut is telling me he had a date or something of that sort setup and something went wrong. All of that would be available on his phone. Whether it was a date or a drug thing whatever I think the phone would actually implicate him.

maybe, but that doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
date: why would he be secretive? he's a single day dude. nothing to hide. he's not married. he's pretending he's straight. he's not a politician. he can be kinky or whatever and it's not shameful. so, that doesn't add up.
drug: lots of entertainers do drugs so that could be a possibility. But...no more a possibility than what he said happened.

I'm sorry, he's NOT pretending to be straight. Typo.

People mentioned Grindr. I would think that a hook up via a site like this would be embarrassing. So he covered it up perhaps. Maybe it was a kinky deal.

While Hollywood is into all sorts of sh*t, sometimes kinky crap gets in the way of image.

I really don't think it was a set up - mainly b/c of the footage of him with his Subway sandwich.

Either way, it's a mystery!

yeah, Grindr WOULD be embarrassing but....getting caught making up the MAGA story is even MORE embarrassing. And certainly more damaging to his career.

This thread: "Jussie Smollett's story is suspect. Who just walks around trying to beat up a random Black dude."

Liam Neeson: “I went up and down areas hoping some ‘black bastard’ would come out of a pub and have a go at me about something, so I can kill him."

Imagine if he has been involved with celebrities who are supposedly straight--he wouldn't want that info to get out, for their sake.

That would be quite the story! He had a little cut on his head. And he looks great now - during his performance. so . . .

Liam's case . . . Some things are best left unsaid. Someone called him a "performative racist." I had never heard of the term before today.

Variety

The actor said, after someone he knew was allegedly raped by a black attacker, he walked the streets hoping to kill some “black bastard” in revenge.

“I went up and down areas with a cosh (a club), hoping I’d be approached by somebody — I’m ashamed to say that — and I did it for maybe a week, hoping some ‘black bastard’ would come out of a pub and have a go at me about something, you know? So that I could kill him,” the actor said in an interview published on Monday in Britain’s Independent newspaper. He used air quotes when saying the words “black bastard.”

Promoting his new film, “Cold Pursuit,” a tale of revenge, Neeson told the reporter he had found out about the rape after returning home from abroad. He did not specify who had been attacked, but said: “There’s something primal — God forbid you’ve ever had a member of your family hurt under criminal conditions.”

Newly revealed report offers chilling details of alleged Jussie Smollett attack

Harrowing details emerged in the Jussie Smollett case on Monday, nearly a week after the "Empire" actor told police that he was brutally attacked in what authorities are calling a possible hate crime in Chicago.

Yet nothing is reported.

I would hope not! The police can easily get those records from the service provider. Is it faster to see the phone? Sure, but he's under no obligation to comply to that request.

Police departments are notoriously leaky. Think of everything on your phone at the moment... do you want that in the hands of the police? Because they aren't going to do a quick looky-loo at the phone; they're going to physically process the phone using software. That software is going to pull everything from the phone... all of the WiFi spots you've connected to, your GPS data, all of your SMS and MMS (including deleted), and if you're on an iPhone, it's going to pull your cloud keychain data (that's all your passwords and cc info if you have it saved to your phone). They'll have every password you've used for every site and can then log in. How do I know this? Because I'm in digital forensics and that's what I do.

Not turning over his phone to the police is not even on the list of reasons why this story is odd.

Smollett story aside, this is an excellent post and people should pay attention. If I knew nothing on my phone would help the police, no way would I give it over. And if I were a celebrity, a double triple no, even if it could help or back jump my story. Because you know leaks are happening.

so I might be in the minority but I could care less. I have nothing interesting on my phone and if it would help get my attackers, I would not hesitate.

Same. If I'm a normal, average Joe, sure, I'll turn it over.

Now, if I was famous, no way.

My good friend is in cyber forensics and explained that if you do take nude selfies to send, make sure you have your automatic backup to the cloud turned off. That's what happened during "the fappening." The celebs took the nude photos to send to others, the photos were immediately uploaded to the cloud, and stored there even when deleted from the phones. I did a quick look one day by signing in at icloud.com and sure enough, every photo that I'd deleted from my phone was still present there.

There’s alsmot certainly references to drug purchases on his phone and he may he legitimately concerned that if he gives the police free access to his phone he will be facing criminal charges for possession. If I did use illegal drugs recreationally, I would not give police permission to search my phone. (I don’t, so it’s not an issue.). He may feel that there is no real benefit, because if he is telling the truth, the logins won’t have anything relevant. At best, it corroborates his own story (which really shouldn’t need corroboration), at worst he ends up with a charge for possession.

I just find it hard to believe that Jussie is on the level of late night Grindr hookups in dark alleyways. You'd think he could... do better? But maybe it's a thrill thing.

My gay friend's latest theory: the redacted name in the police report is someone he's seeing. He let that person know he was on his way home but going to get Subway and used that as cover to meet for a quickie near there in an alleyway or other secluded space. The sex was a bit rougher than he bargained for, maybe even to the point where he was uncomfortable and stopped being a willing participant (ie: the noose on his neck). A scuffle ensued, he got some punches in as well, and left with his sandwich, of course,, and then when he got back to his apartment he made up the "I got jumped" story since he cheated. And his manager, as most do regarding their clients, knows it was a hook up gone bad and is covering for him.

I've looked at the letter the Empire set received addressed to Jussie and I don't think the red MAGA on the letter matches the other red marker used. I feel like it was added after the fact, maybe to corroborate his account. I do believe he did get hate mail, just that it didn't contain MAGA.

lol! These theories are hysterical.

But why not just leave it alone? He had a little cut on his head. "I fell and scratched my head." Why make up some lame story if he could get away with something "normal." That would explain the little boo boo and the intact sandwich - and the "bruised" ribs.

And quickie in that cold weather would have DEFINITELY been a quickie! If that was the case, he's lucky some of his parts still work.

I am so fascinated with this STUPID story! I wish I could let it go.
