Did she have to cut his hair?! N
Did the direwolf die? A life for a life like when droggo came back? |
|
Lame... Hair snip, put clippings in flames, speak mumbo jumbo and voila!
I think that might be the worst segment in the whole series. |
| That's pretty much how it worked in Season 3, too, minus the hair stuff. Praying over the wounds and voila! |
+1. Underwhelming especially after such a buildup. |
Nah. The simplicity of it highlights her insecurity and lack of faith in her own, well, faith. If she'd stormed in there, all balls, and made some sort of magical fireworks and then POOF! Jon Snow! we would've missed the impact of her "impostor syndrome" and self-doubt. She doesn't think she can do it, and there's a tentative, hesitant quality to each of her movements. The ritual itself was similar the last time we saw it, so it wouldn't have made sense to change it much anyway. |
Sure she could've remained uncertain of her abilities but it would've been better if after not waking they tried to burn the corpse and there was a rebirth by flame or something more dramatic. Not on Melisandre's end but on the circumstances of the resurrection. |
I'm fairly certain this is how it will happen in the books. Like many readers, I think R+L=J, so it would make sense if they burn him and he comes out 'unburnt.' For the show - there was literally no other reason to have Melisandre at the wall, so not really shocked that Jon is alive again. |
|
I wonder if the Watch will attempt to burn him believing him a Wight.
BTW what was the legend about the king of the white walkers and some ice queen / witch? |
This is a likely way to reveal Jon's heritage. |
| They're definitely going to try to burn him. Great way to introduce R+L=J. |
Wights can't speak. Beric Dondarian could after being resurrected by Thoros of Myr, so I would assume Jon will be able to speak. |
Well I'm not saying Melisandre shouldn't have been involved I'm just saying after she made an attempt something more dramatic could've happened. |
But does the Brotherhood know that ... Without Sam Tarley to tell them? |
|
Agreed. I like that she doubted herself so much. They should have burned the body after the unsuccessful attempt at reviving him. Then her faith in her visions would have been restored AND everyone would know Jon is a Targarian.
Don't get me wrong... I'm relieved to see JS back. Love him and it sounds like he's got a huge role this season. I read that he filmed more than any other character on the show. |
My assumption at the end was that believing the Red Priestess' attempt was unsuccessful they were going out to tell some schleps to bring the body to the pire. |
