Harvard no longer allowed to enroll international students

+1

Especially given all the tax-backed federal funding they get.

Lots of kids of dictators and various foreign nepotism-babies. It’s insane.

True at Cornell.
Foreign kids throw down $100s at the two local bars that they need armored cars for the cash.
So many Amex black cards from kids. All foreign born.

This is FOR SURE getting slammed in court. It's not legal. The executive branch of the US government cannot dictate to a private institution of higher learning who it can and cannot enroll.

Do not expect more seats for your US kids, people.

Unfortunately as someone said earlier, the populist message of “foreigners”taking your jobs and stealing spots from white American kids is strong with the weak….

This is not as clever as you think. Protecting the jobs and spots of the weak is paramount in a democracy, and it used to be part of the Democratic plank. The idea that the United States will source the most clever people from all over the world has no natural limit. A clever foreigner can come for your job, too.

I am the clever foreigner that took your job….and guess what? I have been here for 25 years now, married an American, have 3 kids and have probably contributed more in Taxes to this country than most in this thread.

Cool. But did your family pay federal taxes for decades? The same taxes that fund these universities?

I’ll wait.

We’re not here to subsidize universities that prioritize foreigners.

But you are here to subsidize universities that do some of the best, world-class research in science and medicine? Right?

Just because International students have more potential than your niece doesn't make it wrong for international students to study there. Your niece should work harder. International students shouldn't have to suffer for this.

As an American, I have no personal duty or obligation to international students. My country‘s duty and obligation is to its own citizens.

Getting the best and brightest to live and work in our country is looking out for our country. A lot our scientists are immigrants, many who came here as foreign students.

I’m a MAGA and I know how tax money works. I want the best research I can pay for with my tax dollars. If that’s Harvard, then I want Harvard.

Thousands of students coming from across the globe to be educated in the US, spend tax dollars here, and then contribute to the US economy if they stay; or disseminate US value if they go home.

A true travesty.

Why not have American students take their spot, instead of having to go to Europe for college? Have you not seen all the top stats posts of kids not getting into T20 and going abroad? That's a true travesty as well.

Because your kid is not the best of the best. How many times do you need to be told that?

NP. No dog in this fight (my kids are very high stats but not interested in Harvard for a few reasons) but you have to admit that the lack of places at top colleges is shutting out some really talented kids these days and making it a lottery. I actually think this is a fair move by Trump to put Americans first. The places for international students should be capped at a small percentage like 2-5% that are truly the best of the best.

What I think I hate the most about Trumo is that he somehow sold you on this notion that Americans are owed something. This nationalism that he is selling is so appealing because you think it will get you something. It will not. You might even have a point at public universities, but at private ones "Americans should be admitted first" means nothing. They can choose to discriminate based on whatever criteria they set. And as a result,t they have the top medical and scientific research.

GMAFB

People love to come to America and reap all its advantages. Why are non-US citizens entitled to the same access as US citizens? One could argue that it’s the foreigners who are entitled. Do you think foreign flagships would allow insane numbers of foreigners? I think not.

Stop saying they are the best and brightest. Do you know how much cheating on tests, applications etc. comes from international applicants? This includes foreign cheating on international Olympiads for math, chemistry etc.

That's fine, and I'm happy for you. But there's a limit, and we passed it a long time ago. There is more to a nation than having smart citizens who pay a lot in taxes.

What is that?

So we should have dumb citizens who collect welfare payments? Because that is the path Trump is moving us towards.

+1 Trump is actively trying to end American scientific dominance. This is something we were already great at. How is this MAGA?

Who is stopping you from becoming the best and the brightest? Typical dumb MAGA nonsense. You just can't hack it and hate the idea that non-white, non-Americans are better than you.

Please stop with that crap. Cheaters aren't churning out world-class, peer-reviewed research at Harvard.

Harvard is a private school. Perhaps you haven't heard?

It is a private school subsidized by generations of American taxpayers.

I’m worried this is just the beginning of Trump trying to destroy US colleges.
