Fellas, ya'll reading this?
Unless you want to have kids, stay unmarried. And even if you do, try to do it without getting married to one of these... She may seem sweet when she wants that ring, status and security, but peruse this thread to see what she will quickly turn into. |
Your reason appears to be that you are independently wealthy and don't want to share that wealth with anyone else, and that your first marriage already failed. The article lists many potential reasons for the trend, but I don't see your experience as particularly instructive, unless you abstract out so far that the article only stands for: "woman don't want to get married for many idiosyncratic reasons." |
It's owned by DH and me, not DH and I. You sont say it is owned by I and it doesn't change when you add another person. |
DP. The underlying data amounts for every hour, Pew just took out some smaller things https://www.bls.gov/news.release/atus.t08A.htm That's the full data (from 2023 so newer than Pew's article), |
You sont say! |
please.. as if men don't change after they get married. In the beginning, he's more well groomed, polite, does more for you. Then he puts a ring on your finger, and he suddenly becomes lazy. |
my 30 year old niece dumped a guy because he was unambitious and lazy, at home and at work. Double whammy. She is now married to a plumber who is ambitious and does a lot at home. She has a masters degree. |
Dating isn’t like marriage. It’s hard to see down the line how someone will interact with you once kids come along. Especially if you have lust blinders on. |
She gets it just fine. She is saying that once women increased their percentages in the work force, marriage rates went down. Women are able to control marital status and fertility, but in today’s economy it’s a given she has to work, and most of the time, that’s married or not. It’s not as if we are seeing what women would choose, for partnerships and child bearing, outside of the reality that it takes two incomes or one very high paying job to make it in today’s world. |
It is when you consider which regions in the world are growing in birth rates comparatively and what that means for geopolitics and the military. |
It’s “wouldn’t” not “sont.” |
Plumbers can make a lot of money especially if they own their own business. |
Or just till he dies early. Or maybe he picks up an addiction to alcohol after a concussion, or pills after an injury and becomes a shadow of the man you knew. Or maybe until one of you has an affair. You say “both of you” are responsible for this but don’t acknowledge that you can only control your half of this bargain. Or maybe yes- you’ll blissfully get along for 55 years like my parents have- and I truly love that for you. But I said all the same things you’re saying- till one of the above scenarios bit me in the ass. I was married 15 years. I won’t marry again, not angrily, not as a man hated- but gratefully as a woman at peace with herself and her world. |
This was the first generation of young women who truly saw moms work in near equal measure to dads- and breadwin in record numbers. This is also the first generation of young women who were raised in the activity laden nightmare that is modern day parenting. They heard terms like “mental load” and heard about the invisible work of parenting. They saw their parents work their ass off just to pay for daycare, while their standard of living wasn’t guaranteed to rise. This generation of women is neither smarter nor dumber than past- but they sure are more educated on the realities of cost of living/kids/quality of life issues |
Same. It’s unfortunate my father, who ran his own software business, and my brother, now is senior military w four kids, set such a high bar in terms of being a great husband, father, handyman, advocate, coach, caretaker, teacher and property owner. |
