Or just till he dies early. Or maybe he picks up an addiction to alcohol after a concussion, or pills after an injury and becomes a shadow of the man you knew. Or maybe until one of you has an affair. You say “both of you” are responsible for this but don’t acknowledge that you can only control your half of this bargain.  Or maybe yes- you’ll blissfully get along for 55 years like my parents have- and I truly love that for you.

But I said all the same things you’re saying- till one of the above scenarios bit me in the ass. I was married 15 years. I won’t marry again, not angrily, not as a man hated- but gratefully as a woman at peace with herself and her world.
