Because of Diddy? |
yes a persona but beyond that, it feels engineered entirely to a. stoke false outrage over race. I am all for conversations about race, but not engineered to specifically make someone richer and b. designed solely for the purpose of making a point. I'm just missing the part where beyonce showed any interest in country music before this. and why should she? it sucks. |
DP here: Agreed. Feels like some sort of persona to "rub it" in the faces of country fans. In other words, next level trolling. Which I can appreciate, but 10 bucks says Beyoncé never tours this material. Because in the end, she doesn't really care about it. Her and Jay Z wanted to make a statement. And if/when she doesn't win Album of the Year at the Grammies next year for Cowboy Carter, they will have another sh#t-fit. But congrats on the successful engagement farming? ![]() |
100%. Manufactured outrage so they can be mad when she doesn’t win everything. It’s not to say that there’s not racism in awards - there is. And it’s not to say Beyoncé isn’t deserving of artist of the year - she has been. But this does feel like just trolling and I think people are reacting to that. Music should come from something you love - like lemonade was so powerful bc it was like rage and love and soulful and angry. This is just like - I guess??? But why? |
I don't even really buy the "racist" argument. Jon Batiste just won AOTY two years ago. Bruno Mars in 2018. Lauren Hill, Herbie Hancock, Norah Jones, Ray Charles, Santana....all won AOTY within the previous 25 years. Stevie Wonder won AOTY three times within four years (74, 75, and 77). Hell, Michael Jackson won AOTY only once in his career for Thriller in 1984. No, Beyonce doesn't "deserve" AOTY just because. |
Here's who Beyoncé lost to in each year: 2010 Winner: Taylor Swift - Fearless Runner up: Beyoncé - I Am....Sasha Fierce 2015 Winner: Beck - Morning Phase Runner up: Beyoncé - Beyoncé 2017 Winner: Adele - 25 Runner Up: Beyoncé - Lemonade 2023 Winner: Harry Styles - Harry's House Runner Up: Beyoncé - Renaissance She was arguably robbed in 2015. That was a forgettable album by Beck. Every other year she had very stiff competition. Unfortunately, Lemonade came out the same time as Adele's 25....any other year and Beyoncé would've won with Lemonde. But 25 was a monster album. |
The album is amazing. I'm a fan of hers but not a super fan. I liked the Beyonce titled album more than Lemonade.
Even the songs that are just okay like Bodyguard got me excited to have a road trip. It's likely her best album. |
Beyonce is from Houston, so she's a country girl. |
Fascinating discussion.
It may help for some of you to just start with Wikipedia on Cowboy Carter? As a child she attended the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo every year with her family wearing western clothing. She performed at the Rodeo four times between 2001 and 2007. Beyoncé's first notable association with country music came in 2007, when she performed a bluegrass-inspired version of her hit "Irreplaceable" with country duo Sugarland at the American Music Awards. She first released an original country song in 2016 with the song "Daddy Lessons" on her album Lemonade. Beyoncé, with the Chicks (who had previously covered the song), performed it at the 50th Annual Country Music Association Awards on November 2, 2016. The performance received critical acclaim and gave the CMA Awards their HIGHEST viewership figures in history; however, some country music fans criticized Beyoncé's attendance and felt she did not belong in the genre. The CMA deleted ALL promotional posts about Beyoncé's performance, succumbing to the pressure in an attempt to prevent backlash against the organization. —- Beyonce has been country, and certainly meets the criteria by any stretches of the DCUM imagination. She has likely attended more rodeos than you, and if not she has performed at more rodeos. Definitely more AMAs and CMAs, no? And while she has faced discrimination, do you know what Linda Martell was bombarded with? Do you know what it means for Linda Martell to be on this album with Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson? Oh, and NO ONE is up in arms about Dolly Parton! Boycott Dollywood is not a battle cry lol. She is literally treated like royalty here and has a pristine reputation. I am not a super fan of Beyoncé. But the DCUM minimizing and erasure of her knowledge and participation in this area of music is mind boggling. And I won’t venture to guess why….so I will suggest you consider lyrics from Willie Nelson on Smoke Hour II: “You're turned into KNTRY Radio Texas, home of the real deal And if there’s one thing you can take away from my set today, let it be this: Sometimes you don't know what you like until someone you trust turns you on to some real good sh*t And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why I'm here Up next on "The Smoke Hour" is, "JUST FOR FUN" by Beyoncé You’re welcome” |
Yeah, people being dismissive are forgetting where Beyonce is from. |
All country music is hideous. |
She won't be touring Act II anytime soon. Her touring schedule is rigorous and the rehearsals are intense. Renaissance was a 6-month tour; her last tour before that was 5 years ago. There were 4 years between On the Run and On the Run II tours. She's got small children, she might do some dates here and there, but there won't be another big tour for a while. |
Beyonce arriving at the Houston rodeo to perform. |
And she needs to fit in the time to visit her loving a hole husband in jail in the near future. That would make a good album |
Is that a belly dancing outfit? Where's the cowboy hat? |
