They won’t even have to drag the country. Because Trump was joking, Trump couldn’t hear the question, the border, inflation, Biden is old. All these justifications because what the gop wants to do seems so preposterous. The complacency is straight out of It Can’t Happen Here. No mistake though. The GOP is softening the country up to believe it’s reasonable to deny women birth control, just like they with abortion turning a private medical decision into one of the most intrusive government interventions to date. |
This will lead to a lot of gay sex. The GOP just loves that . |
They are not just banning BC.
Project 2025 has not been fully released yet. It is going to be horrifying for women. |
And gay sex with underage minors. The GOP seems to love that. |
Doesn’t mean anything. The “mainstream” media can and will propagandize anything in service to the GOP getting back in power. Watch for it. |
I really haven’t seen much of anything in the media. They’re just ignoring it all. Better to breathlessly cover what a bunch of kids are doing. |
+1. The media has decided that this issue is a little too out there and in their effort to pretend everything is normal they are covering something they know how to cover and are comfortable with, not to mention that they know how to get the most inflammatory stories and images. Unsympathetic women - poor, nonwhite, not educated - being cut off from birth control just doesn't play the same. |
+2 Birth control is what, more than any one thing, made it possible for women to choose their life’s course. Its value to the lives of just about every adult in America cannot be overstated. And they’re keeping quiet. |
They can choose to never cover it at all and it will be still be a huge and motivating election issue. Millions of voters understand exactly how critical this is and are going to the polls and dragging every voting family member and voter they can rustle up along with them to shut this GOP nonsense down. |
I hope you’re correct. |
In a country where, according to the polls, a majority think we’re in a recession and that’s Biden’s fault and a good chunk think the fall of Roe is Biden’s fault, and a country in which millions keep thinking that the GOP isn’t that bad and won’t do some terrible thing (get Roe overturned, re-nominate a man charged with umpteen serious charges), I’m not secure in that. I think the media is covering everything in a such a way as to pave the way for a GOP win. Now they have been doing this, more or less, for years and to a reduced effect (see the predicted “red wave” that got carried back out to sea, never to be seen again) but I’m a little anxious that we’ll be yellow journalism-ed into fascism. |
+1 Media has an agenda. Millions of people are ignorant AF. |
I really think this all makes dems sound not credible.
I know lots of people that are opposed to abortion. Basically my whole family plus most of the people I grew up with. No one I know closely has had an abortion. Birth control is totally different. I don’t know anyone that is opposed to birth control. Every woman I know has been on it. All the Republican woman I know are on it. The Republican guys wives and girlfriends are all on it. I just don’t think there is a realistic chance of them rolling it back, and saying that’s why people should vote blue is not going to win any votes. I do think the fact that Trump apparently didn’t know what contraception means is a significant point. Charlie Dent was on CNN and this was his take — Trump just doesn’t understand the word and the different between both control and medical abortion. Which is scary and sad. |
You think the words of Republicans about how they plan to go after birth control makes Democrats sound not credible? Why don’t you read the thread first and then comment? |
