I hate Trump as much as the next gal, but after listening to the quote, I don't think he was actually saying he was open to birth control restrictions. I think this is what his handlers told him to say if he either can't hear the question, doesn't understand the question, or doesn't know what the answer is. He really, really can't think on his feet, and so he has some sort of stock answers that are basically "just wait until you see what we've got -- it's awesome. The best. You'll love it." It's like his binders of women. He's got a great, non specific plan that no one will ever see because it doesn't exist, but it’s phenomanal and very stable-genius-like. That's just the way he campaigns. But here he stepped in it, because this was a question with a simple answer.
And the rest of the elected Republicans on this thread, you just want to ignore all of that, pretend it isn’t real? And as another pp said, this is certainly being discussed among Republicans leaders. This is where they’re planning on dragging the country.
They won’t even have to drag the country. Because Trump was joking, Trump couldn’t hear the question, the border, inflation, Biden is old. All these justifications because what the gop wants to do seems so preposterous. The complacency is straight out of It Can’t Happen Here. No mistake though. The GOP is softening the country up to believe it’s reasonable to deny women birth control, just like they with abortion turning a private medical decision into one of the most intrusive government interventions to date.
