It's all in the report, in ENORMOUS detail, but basically... he went to the league commissioner and said there was a rule that allowed him to pull two kids out of the draft and place them on his team without drafting—so he nabbed two top 5 players. There wasn't a rule that said that. Then he recruited a top 5 kid from Capitol Hill, nobody knew the kid and the kid didn't show for the draft and Ricky said he would "evaluate" the kid himself and instead of doing that or getting his scores from CapHill, just assigned him random low ranks. He doctored the scores to make it look like the kid attended multiple tryouts and deleted the "no-show" notation so no one would look twice at the kid. He would up getting 3 of the top 5 kids—kids that should've been on other people's teams. And when confronted said he lost his computer as if that would explain anything. |

The lesson for the kids is if you don't want it enough to cheat, you don't want it enough to win! |
Sounds like a bunch of whiny parents trying to live out their pipe dreams through their children… |
I agree! |
Well, it sounds like that if you don't bother with the specifics. But the whines are valid, and the coaches trying to live out their pipe dreams through kids aren't parents (or at least no longer have LL kids). |
You must be one of the lawyers. |
And you must be one of the NWLL people. From my reading of the complaint, the reporting parents’ boys are aging out so their boys’ chance is over. They’re putting all the sketchiness out there for the benefit of the younger kids to try to eradicate it and make the experience better for all. It’d be much easier for them to wash their hands of the league and move on. |
who cares why they're putting it out, wrong is wrong. It's pretty hard to see any defense of Ricky after reading the report. |
I think this is more common in youth sports than anyone thinks. We are aware of some financial issues at one really popular sports org and they prefer to brush it under the rug rather than confront any wrongdoing by their staff and coaches. |
I posted what you quoted and am in agreement with you. I’m commending the parents for bringing it up. I had issues with my son’s little league. It’s run in a similar but not quite so blatant way, but like most we didn’t realize how bad it was until he experienced it in his 12s year. We kept quiet mainly because he still wants to play and the jokers that ran LL also run the travel ball team and have made their way into coaching high school. |
As a NWLL parent I am stunned that there has been no further communication and that the Board will let the season commence under this cloud. |
Same. It sounds like they’re just biding their time until everyone forgets and the season starts. This will probably be our last season with NWLL for our 9 year old as we look for other options. |
What?? Business as usual with same leadership??????? Is there no accountability for anything? This has nothing to do with the families and boys/ girls mentioned or referred to as examples- it has everything to do with Ricky and cronies administrative handling of all of it. That is the only thing that needs to change. Oh and the board too. Fresh start for everyone. |
You should ask... make sure your kid won't be on Ricky's team, and talk to other parents so they know what's going on when their kid's team plays Ricky's team. It should be brought up at every opportunity if he's going to stay involved. And the stuff in the report about the umpires is outrageous. They're his buddies and they shouldn't be allowed to umpire this season and whether or not you believe Ricky rigged the draft and fudged eligibility paperwork (and there is an enormous amount of evidence) the least they can do is get rid of the umps. |
