NWLL baseball scandal

Both my kids played NWLL and he was, if anything, willing to take kids on his team that other coaches didn't want. He is also super patient with entitled parents making unreasonable requests. It is a shame some people are so quick to assume he cheated.

Two things can be true at once. He can be nice to kids who aren't great at baseball (I've also seen him patiently coach) and also rig the draft and play eligibility games. I don't think anyone is assuming anything—the original letter laid out in ENORMOUS detail what he did, with evidence. The only question is, do we care?

I care. The "dad mafia" is getting really old. Sports boards should have term limits. They need new folks to break up the bad habits.

This is way too easy and lame for a response. Black men can produce waivers - right?
Don't be so dense - it's not about race. It never was.
You are trying very hard to get this forum locked.

Stop with this. Getting the forum locked will not stop the actual problem.

I care. My son really enjoyed NWLL until Majors, when the focus on summer teams amped up and the playing time and prime positions went only to the coaches' sons and other favored, travel-also players. A couple of seasons of standing hot and bored in the outfield, getting farther and farther behind the AS crowd, and he was done.

Or at least, I cared. It's too late for the recreational players his age.

NWLL bleeds A LOT of talent because of daddyball. There are a lot of homegrown strong players that are definitely AS caliber that leave for travel just to get a fair shot at premium positions and continued development. One solution might be for NWLL to apply for a second charter so they could have two all star teams.

So what’s the latest with the scandal? Will he still run the program or not and who makes that decision to remove him?

Whether the allegations are true or not is really besides the point... there is a basic baseball coaching competency question that is really this issue.

I think the key point is that people have formally requested information on a member-based non-profit serving the community that they have not been able to get.

NWLL needs to communicate substantive answers to its members, or it has a real governance problem.

I hope California loses; lots of travel ball parents there that need to be humbled.

Go Curaçao!

How do you know that? Perhaps the baseball karma gods didn’t agree with you.

Indeed!!!! Fall ball is starting! NWLL needs new leadership ASAP and all the members who signed that silly letter saying nothing is out of place need to be replaced too!

PS THE DPR staff and NWLL coaches/ staff/ members are deeply interwoven in mutually beneficial relationships...

All of it is a hot mess! Let the other branches of DCLL play for the 12 spot this year in williamsport! NWLL needs to be out this year.

Yeah, unless your kid is one of the Top 5 kids that Ricky is rigging the draft to put on his team, I can't see why you'd want your kid to play NWLL! We quit last year because of the Dad Mafia—games were so tense with all the angry dads and usually a rout one way or the other—and I can't imagine why you'd let your kid play either! He's got to go, total reboot is needed!

How do you rig the draft?

Isn't there tryouts so you can see the kids, then a draft by the coaches?

Most of the coaches should already know most of the kids from prior years.
