So true. So quick to blame anyone else but themselves. |
This statement makes me question whether mcps parents have functioning brains. What’s that? You’re not at all the same? Guess what? Neither are teachers. |
| Yeah but the union talks out there butt and often speaks against you so admin is not offended. |
You are right, the statements that the parents' union puts out are ridiculous...oh wait |
+100. This reminds me off all the teachers that would speak in private about how schools needed to reopen. But when urged to write a letter, or submit testimony, they all scoffed at the idea. MCEA is a big problem. And if you're a part of MCEA, then you are a part of that problem |
The Parents' Coalition, if that's what you're referring to, is an independent advocacy association that not all or even a majority of parents belong to. They are an activist group with an agenda. The MCEA, which all MCPS teachers not only belong to but also pay dues to and elect representatives for, is in fact the voice of all teachers in MCPS. So that comparison between the Parents' Coalition and MCEA doesn't really hold water. |

One of the issues of the MCEA is almost all of their business is not done by vote or conversation with the rank and file teachers.
So you get only the small, political zealots of the group who go to their conference in OC- which becomes an echo chamber of far left ideas- way farther left than most of the actual teachers. It's a real disconnect. And as saying teachers should "speak out about the MCEA" that would be absolute career suicide. I dont blame or expect them to do that. |
Silence is complicity. Expecting courage from people to speak their minds is not unreasonable. And the mere fact that we're excusing people because speaking their mind would be "career suicide" is a big enough indictment of the org itself |
Precisely. So basically, parents are not wrong that MCEA actually is a problem. Teachers are just too scared or feel powerless to do anything about it. That says more about MCEA than the parents. |
MCEA isn't about teachers. Its a business and its looking after their interests not their forced due's paying members. |
I think this is the most accurate response. I personally don't feel scared, I know just my voice won't do anything. Now, if you convince 14,000 others to do the same, then we are talking. But I'm not going to speak out against MCEA - that's not my battle to fight. I don't care enough about them. I won't vote, I won't attend meetings, they can F right off. I have tried calling them for help for myself and with my own child when he wasn't getting services, and they blew me off. I KNOW they do not look after us. But I absolutely LOVE it when people in the community all gang up on teachers though! It's super cute and fun. We didn't start MCEA, it was here before us. All I can do is leave the union. I just want to teach - not deal with political bs. We had no idea they would even be at the county council meeting. Take what you will with that...but think before you pop off here about how it's all my fault I don't speak up- don't lump all of us together. MCEA is a separate entity from the bulk of teachers AND they 100% act like it. |
It sounds like MCEA promotes bullying and creates a toxic atmosphere. |
When I worked for the county, going to the union for help was a joke and they wouldn't help except if it interested them. We couldn't opt out. |
I know! Unions are commonists! |
