What’s your summer sandal that goes with everything?

Anonymous
So there is a difference between the current comfy dad core looks that are currently popular with younger adults (Birks) and the orthotic but trying to be fashionable sandals like those pewter ones on the previous page. Wear what you like absolutely but the poster who said the difference between having style and not is being able to determine the slight difference between those two kinds of shoes was right on the money.

Don’t forget too that how you style a shoe and what you wear with it will also determine how fashionable it appears. The Birks that people are wearing now are styled with specific pieces to make them look current and fashionable. You can’t just wear them with any old thing and get the same effect.

Moreover, teens aren’t wearing sandals at all and even younger adults lean more into sneakers these days than sandals.

So....which sandals would you recommend for OP? Here is the updated request:

OP again, again-- I think what I really want this year is a walkable sandal, with a back strap and arch support, with a 1-2 inch heel or wedge, in a soft metallic or neutral that kinda disappears on the foot. (You know what I mean? Does that make sense?) The t-strap thing isn't that big of a deal. Again, thank you for all the responses! I wish I could wear many of these suggestions.

Depending on skin tone, the beige can blend. The whole shoe is so slim that the interior orthopedic quality is not obvious. The writer Sadie Stein wrote a love letter to these on NY mag years ago.

Interesting. Not what I was expecting for a "younger" look.

I didn’t say it was younger as I didn’t see that as OP’s request. You can snark at me all you like, but I have good taste.

The truth is that were price no object and given her age, OP got a decent answer on p. 1 with Ferragamo. I’d add APC personally. All this garbage posted here with visible cork and speed laces is the stuff of nightmares, unless you get one with intentional absurdity in the design like by Suicoke or something.

These?

The second pair by APC look like Tevas! PP who said above they have good taste - do you think these are stylish?!

ITA (fitflop poster again). And also, the dadcore / Gen z style is not necessarily what 40 year old women should be aspiring to? Like I can see that it's different from the orthotics, I also think it's super cute on young people, AND I know that in me, a 40 yo woman, it would possibly read as orthotic. So I skip it. There are other options.

IMO the fit Flops (terrible name but cute shoes IMO) are pretty, simple, and comfortable. They go with everything. I wouldn't walk them down a catwalk but I wore them in Europe and saw many women with similar styles on their feet. But at the end of the day it's all a matter of taste. Everyone should feel free to wear what they want. But I do think if women are wearing older, orthotic style sandals and convincing themselves that they look like college students, they are missing the whole point.

I'm sure I'll be eviscerated but Hermes Chypre sandals.

I was just expecting something younger since the most common complaint about the shoes posted was that they are "geriatric".

These scream dance hall granny instead of NPR granny.

I know you’re hurt because your favorites were mocked. You can get help for that!

It’s also such a twat move to constantly be in your feelings and then use “granny” as a cutting remark.

Mine weren't mocked. They weren't ortho enough for OP.

You’ve been an absolute jerk to everyone here. When people cite brands, do you think they’re giving a Rec for everything?

Which Ferragamo and APC sandals meets OP's requirements? So not the ones with "nightmarish" cork?

I personally love them, as well as the numerous dupes available. I have a dupe that I love for the Oren, and it goes with summer dresses for brunch, out to dinner, and nicely with some summer pants outfits for the office, and pool days. (I wear sneakers -- yes, even in the summer -- for longer walks, running around after my kids...) But OP said she has finicky feet and needs arch support and a back strap, so I think it's a no for her.

I think this thread went off the rails because the original post lacked clarity and 50% of PPs REASONABLY thought OP was looking for an everyday comfy walking sandal and the other 50% of PP EQUALLY REASONABLY thought OP was looking for a cute strappy sandal or slide to wear in multiple settings. So, naturally, basically about 50% of PPs thought every recommendation was bonkers. Then OP comes on to seemingly clarify things. It turns out she already has an everyday comfortable walking sandal and she wants this second sandal to go with summer dress and pants, including in her fairly casual office. Ok, cool. But then she says her finicky foot can't do any of the cute slides that have been posted, and she needs a back strap and arch support and wants it to sort of "disappear" into her foot. This description/set of criteria sounds pretty damn ortho despite its intended purpose, so I think everyone is thereby left more confused than before.

God speed in this quest OP !!

No, just 1-2 posters who can seemingly dish it out but can't take it.

Those are beautiful - the second ones would also be very walkable (if you like a hard, stiff sole - I am the clog person, and do).

Kork Ease has some similar sandals that are a few hundred less:
