Well I laughed, PP. If I'm understanding OP, a lot of those Madewell sandals actually meet her description...the Gena Ankle strap even came in the metallic like she wanted (and has the back strap, small heel, etc...) Not something I would wear personally, but it does seem like what she wants.

If folks are posting microthin soles with like two straps -- please say if you live in the burbs and go everywhere by car. I feel like an absolute basic for any kind of shoe is that it needs to have enough support to walk a mile and manage a little city water.

We just returned from Italy and brought a few different sandals / wedges for touring. I wore these the most and they were so comfortable.

I agree. Some of the shoes people are posting are cute and I'd wear them out to dinner (assuming I don't have to walk far) or to a party or wedding, but I would never make them my every-day go-to. I still look for something cute -- slim profile, strappy, flattering. I'm not wearing orthopedic keens or something. But people are putting down any shoe that has arch support and a heel strap, which to me are essential.

They aren't cushioned much but the thicker bottom gripped the cobblestone streets and my feet never hurt and usually after a day of walking in anything other than tennis shoes, they do.

I should clarify that by, ‘goes with everything,’ I meant summer dresses, skirts and nice pants. Things I’d wear to work and to casual events.

About the sports sandals, I love my Chacos and wear them all the time, but not usually to work, etc.

The sandals that ‘went with everything,’ were that style with a line across the toes that then went up the foot to an ankle strap. It’s not an unusual style but I’m having trouble finding an example to link to. Like a wide, foot covering T-strap.

I think what made them work so well is that they were leather and covered most of the foot, so seemed dressier. They were this muted, matte bronze that seemed to match everything and went better with black than black. They had a very low wedge so they were easy to walk all over in.

And I got them at DSW for like $50?! But I got compliments all the time, including strangers in elevators, and a woman getting out of her car across the street. Unicorn shoes, I tell you!

But they fell apart and are long gone! I am trying to remember the brand. It wasn’t a fancy one.

I think what would ‘go with everything,’ this year would be in that soft, matte platinum or champagne tone. I need low herls cuz I have weird feet. So if I find new unicorns, I’ll let you know!
