What’s your summer sandal that goes with everything?

Anonymous
I went through this exercise last year. I wanted travel shows for walking in Europe. I need some arch support so I ended up with these, plus a cork-colored insert. These aren't great for walking miles all day, but fine for walking to dinner or a nearby beach.

I need a supportive footbed and I really like Taos when I need something a little more stylish than my usual Birks or Tevas.

Are you 80?

Seriously. On what planet are these stylist for anyone other than a 70-80 year old grandmother from Palm Beach.

Why is it an insult to suggest that someone is 80? My mom is close to 80, and while she is not a maven of style, she would not wear these sandals. She has sandals similar to (but not exactly the same as) the fit flops that an earlier person posted, which are reasonable, normal sandals. Being an older person does not mean that you are compelled to pick unattractive styles. People can dress nicely for the age that they are.

DP. Oh come on! I'm 40 -- I don't want people to think I look 80, and I also don't want people to think I look 20. Not hard to understand.

There have been several links posted lately that look comfortable but not orthopedic. (Like that pair of fitflops, those were not bad at all.) The fact that they exist makes it all the more strange that middle-aged women are instead buying these orthopedic-looking just simply unattractive shoes.

So....which sandals would you recommend for OP? Here is the updated request:

OP again, again-- I think what I really want this year is a walkable sandal, with a back strap and arch support, with a 1-2 inch heel or wedge, in a soft metallic or neutral that kinda disappears on the foot. (You know what I mean? Does that make sense?) The t-strap thing isn't that big of a deal. Again, thank you for all the responses! I wish I could wear many of these suggestions.

Well, I said RIGHT THERE in my post that you are quoting that the fitflop pair linked above seemed nice. It comes in a lighter shade too, if OP is fairer.

To be extra clear, I was referring to this already posted link:

https://www.fitflop.com/us/en/shop/gracie-leather-back-strap-sandals-p-EB1#A20

The "stone beige" would blend into my foot.

Those are not demonstrably different from the Chacos that people here nearly had a heart attack over. They are simple leather sandals that look nice enough and also seem like you could go for a nice stroll in them. I prefer the Chaco ones, actually.

Depending on skin tone, the beige can blend. The whole shoe is so slim that the interior orthopedic quality is not obvious. The writer Sadie Stein wrote a love letter to these on NY mag years ago.

Interesting. Not what I was expecting for a "younger" look.

I didn’t say it was younger as I didn’t see that as OP’s request. You can snark at me all you like, but I have good taste.

The truth is that were price no object and given her age, OP got a decent answer on p. 1 with Ferragamo. I’d add APC personally. All this garbage posted here with visible cork and speed laces is the stuff of nightmares, unless you get one with intentional absurdity in the design like by Suicoke or something.

It's your right to prefer what you prefer. However, they are quite different from the Chacos in the sense that they do not have giant metal "circles" with no function, are not silver, and do not have giant cork soles. I prefer the more classic look of the fit flops; you have your right to prefer the Chacos, but they are not at all similar.

I was just expecting something younger since the most common complaint about the shoes posted was that they are "geriatric".

These scream dance hall granny instead of NPR granny.

I know you’re hurt because your favorites were mocked. You can get help for that!

It’s also such a twat move to constantly be in your feelings and then use “granny” as a cutting remark.

Mine weren't mocked. They weren't ortho enough for OP.

Like, almost exactly the same.

This is really a chef's kiss moment on this whole weird thread.
