I’m not in the DMV area, but joined this board when UB (and now YBM) shut down. Hope you ladies still chat with me even though I am not from here. )

Hmm, where you live is relevant because women don’t tend to dress up as much in DC. It’s a thing for whatever reason. We all like to look dowdy (I’m very guilty of this).

The thread should have ended at this comment. OP is making an observation based on women outside of NYC.

I’m not quite sure where your children go to school in DC but at the privates almost no one looks dowdy. You’d know this if you were observing, but clearly you’re not. Which is fine. My guess is that you don’t care how you look so you assume everyone else feels that way. However, I’m certain if you’re being honest at least and you really don’t care, and you walk around looking dowdy that others do notice that.

Really?

It's these:

Starting at $3500 for a full-size pendant. It's what all the sheeple are wearing. Now the teenagers are starting.

OMG my tween just bought one of these with her pocket money!

I'd never wear that.... then again. I'm mostly wearing lulu and Patagonia, so the most I go in diamond stud earrings.

Ummm…

Ie, the whole set of Van Cleef Alhambra jewelry, several Cartier or Tiffany bracelets (like 5 or so on each wrist). It’s all so OTT, and I don’t get it at all. I may wear one nice watch, or so, but even though I think I am well put together, these women make me feel like some sort of Cinderella covered in ashes. What is this style and do moms wear these items at your private?

I have noticed this at our Big 3 with some parents admitted in the past 2-4 years. Tons of makeup, big hair, very flashy clothing, a completely different look than the norm. It’s just a few but it is bizarre to wear nightclub clothing to a parent gathering.

Are they from Texas? That's the only place where I've lived where people wear tons of makeup/jewelry/big hair to school events, especially sports.

You have not been in DC long? That is also the NY/NJ private school scene. Cali as well.

Not in the San Francisco - the really rich show their money off with real estate—home in Presidio Heights or Marin, then second, third homes in Sonoma and Tahoe. Women are not very flashy with what they wear, but they take great care of themselves: fit, great skin, etc.

It’s actually exhausting on a completely different level.

Any tips on great skin? I feel like fit and great skin are definitely status symbols here. Along with 4 kids and a huge tricked out SUV. (NOVA)

"Stacks" are very in right now.

Stacks went out like three years ago and only the basic wear them now.

These are obvious fakes and anyone who wore them would just be made fun of. The alahambra is four petals not five.

I prefer a classic look like this. Never goes out of style. Not obnoxious. No huge labels. Just screams #bigthree mom to me.

these are the fakes people buy that don't look like an obvious fake from far away, but you can tell in normal conversation distance due to the metal color and material being off/cheap.

I live in Greenwich, CT and it can be pretty crazy, but I don’t notice jewelry…I’m surprised this is the case in DC. DC isn’t dumpy but it’s not NYC or the NY suburbs. It sounds like you have a lot of NY transplants.

DC is full of people from around the world. Many of the kids at the privates are billionaires. The whole "big law" and "I am a Dr. thing" isn't real money here like lets say Richmond for something.

I live in Greenwich, but I’m from DC. I’m well acquainted with the wealth in both places and it’s not comparable to the NYC area. Just go on over to the threads about Trinity and Dalton. Search “millionaire.” Someone breaks it down nicely.
