Overdressed and status symbols

Anonymous
At DC’s school, many moms are totally overdressed for whatever the occasion is, and wear multiple, yet identical to each other, status symbols. Ie, the whole set of Van Cleef Alhambra jewelry, several Cartier or Tiffany bracelets (like 5 or so on each wrist). It’s all so OTT, and I don’t get it at all. I may wear one nice watch, or so, but even though I think I am well put together, these women make me feel like some sort of Cinderella covered in ashes. What is this style and do moms wear these items at your private?

Totally, but they dominate the culture there.

DC private? Sounds like the suburbs.

Not at our school at all (and I've never heard of Van Cleef Alhambra). Very laid back vibe.

At a big 3 and I’ve only seen one person wear an arm full of Cartier or Alhambra bracelets. I’ve seen others wear one piece of designer jewelry but not a whole set or multiple pieces on their arm or around their neck. I haven’t been to many in-person events since the pandemic but pre-pandemic, I didn’t notice any OTT dressing. The moms are pretty low key me included.

Really?

It's these:

Starting at $3500 for a full-size pendant. It's what all the sheeple are wearing. Now the teenagers are starting.

I’m not in the DMV area, but joined this board when UB (and now YBM) shut down. Hope you ladies still chat with me even though I am not from here. )

Still? It looks very lame when everyone wears the same.

I've never seen that. But I also don't have girls.
