Overdressed and status symbols

Oh ducks, so sad. Love it when the darlings double park during rush hour in their Black G-Wagon while their DC saunters into Cathedral Commons Starbucks. So gauche. So Maret. Yes we saw the sticker.

Please tell!

I’m not in the DMV area, but joined this board when UB (and now YBM) shut down. Hope you ladies still chat with me even though I am not from here. )

Hmm, where you live is relevant because women don’t tend to dress up as much in DC. It’s a thing for whatever reason. We all like to look dowdy (I’m very guilty of this).

Totally, but they dominate the culture there.

+1

In the DC area, in general. Smug, smug, smug.

Really?

It's these:

Starting at $3500 for a full-size pendant. It's what all the sheeple are wearing. Now the teenagers are starting.

The best part, is this is not only ugly and boring, but cheap. $3500 and nary a stone in sight.

Gasp! I do! Still love my DBTY pieces. I have some older stuff I like… Victoria Diamond earrings…of the new stuff I have a smile with diamonds necklace. Love to wear it when I take my kid to the orthodontist.

Elite schools, elite bank account, low profile car and no stickers....status with no need for the symbols

I’m a Van Cleef gal, that’s stone is Chalecedony. Yes van cleef is pricey for not necessarily diamonds guess one is paying for workmanship and style? I’ve slowed down in my van cleef collecting. Fun to wear, but I usually only wear one piece at a time. Sometimes I layer my motif necklaces.

Ie, the whole set of Van Cleef Alhambra jewelry, several Cartier or Tiffany bracelets (like 5 or so on each wrist). It’s all so OTT, and I don’t get it at all. I may wear one nice watch, or so, but even though I think I am well put together, these women make me feel like some sort of Cinderella covered in ashes. What is this style and do moms wear these items at your private?

Plus big headbands and Chanel flaps!

I have noticed this at our Big 3 with some parents admitted in the past 2-4 years. Tons of makeup, big hair, very flashy clothing, a completely different look than the norm. It’s just a few but it is bizarre to wear nightclub clothing to a parent gathering.

Tiffany’s gold with no emblem is old money. Lots of people wear it but it does not say Tiffany’s. The quality of gold is beautiful.

I stopped wearing my old aviation nation sweats from California days.
What was going on this winter break, did they have a big sale and start selling at macys or something?

I've never seen that. But I also don't have girls.

Moms wear these? I would NEVER. This is what the 16 year olds wear at our local private. I think of it as a younger woman/teen trend.

Agree that it's new money but also guarantee it's people from places like rural PA, Ohio and Wisconsin who come from small towns where this is how you show how great you are. They are insecure and shallow.

People confident in themselves, are not confident because they have a lot of jewelry.
