I own a flag, and yes, we sometimes display it outside. It was draped on my grandfather’s coffin, I’m proud of his service, and I am not ashamed of owning a flag. I guess you can say I am “one of those” who votes Democrat, marches for Black Lives Matter and for Pride, and loves this country and works to make it a better place by taking actual action and doesn’t just shoot my mouth off on DCUM. Yeah, I guess you could call me one of those. And I guess I’m also one of those who doesn’t give a fig what you think or say about me. |

Am I free to have an abortion in Texas? Am I free to breath clean air and drink clean water? Are our elections free? |
+1 I am an immigrant that loved the freedom in this country compared to where I came from. I am grieving for what the US is becoming. Don’t tell me to move. I am an American and will proudly fight and get involved in activism to stop this nonsense. |
So much "freedom!" Let freedom ring! Freedom to buy an assault rifle! Freedom to be a mass shooter! MAGA! Republicans, ya gotta love 'em!
|
Burial flags are NOT meant to be flown. That’s incredibly disrespectful. I have my husband’s, my father’s, and my brother’s in their boxes and would never. Get Get another flag. |
To add to your list: *freedom to shoot up schools (ES all the way up to colleges), workplaces, concerts, clubs, places of worship, massage parlors--am I missing anything? *freedom to walk around in public with a gun strapped on your hip or an assault weapon strapped to your back *freedom to buy weapons--including parts for a ghost gun--and ammo online *freedom to buy weapons, including semi-automatic ones--without background checks *freedom to impose your narrow religious beliefs on others *freedom to deny other people their bodily autonomy *freedom to kill anyone you want in "self defense" I could go on and on. Feel free to add other "freedoms" on this Jul 4th weekend. |
Killing something is generally a regulated activity. You are free to breathe free air and drink clean water, absolutely. No one is preventing you from doing this. Don't be stupid. Our elections have regulations, just like all other elections in the world. There are no elections without rules. It feels like you would like to live in an anarchy. |
PP, I am standing right there beside you, arm in arm. Well said! Happy 4th of July! |
| I haven't read all 19 pages of this but.... I have flags flying all over our house and lawn this weekend. They are beautiful and I love celebrating the 4th of July! We are just back from an extensive trip overseas and are so blessed that we get to come home to this wonderfully imperfect country that is still viewed by the rest of the world as a shining city on a hill. |
-1 immigrant celebrating here for the return to conservative rule of law. Note that July 4th is a holiday of celebration. If you are grieving I recommend choosing your own holiday, maybe May 1st? |
DP. I think it depends on the family. There are no rules against it. We fly my uncle's flag. He had 3.5 tours in Vietnam. We fly it on his anniversary and putting it up, bringing it down holds a lot of meaning for us. |
LOL. Anarchy is when a body of 6 unelecteds decide to do with my body and limit regulations by specialized agencies. If that "something" I am killing in an abortion is that important to you, feel free to take if from my body and raise it. |
Ditto. But sure as hell I am not letting the MAGA crowd claim the flag. |
People can claim the flag all they want, you can't prevent someone from making the claim. What you can do is ensure that the flag represents your values, instead of rejecting the flag because someone else also claims it. Celebrate independence, celebrate individual liberty and liberalism. Celebrate the US, celebrate the 4th of July! |
