Not to mention that avoiding sick forever is going to be detrimental to people's immune systems long-term. |
Rates are not high. And some people are too far gone to be rehabilitated. You're one of them. There are other posters at Whole Foods who want to ditch their masks but need to see others do it first in order to feel comfortable fitting back in. |
Of course there are the true believers, and of course you are well-educated (most true believers in masking are, but not all well-educated people are true believers in masking long-term). You will be surprised to learn that there are a lot of people who just keep masking because everybody else does. What one person does won't have an effect on its own, but if more and more people follow, you won't stop the tide. |
I know we have collectively said, “we DGAF about others!” It’s a eugenic program now. |

In answer to the original question: ASAP.
I was just in flyover land and hardly masked at all. It was glorious. For now, I mask if required or requested. I am vaxed, boosted, low-risk, and have minimal exposure to high-risk people. Oh and I understand statistics. |
Then deal with it. Wear a mask if you want. Get boosted. That's it. |
| I will continue to mask indoors as long as transmission is substantial or higher. I haven't had Covid, but work in healthcare and am regularly exposed to Covid positive people. You want me in a mask. In addition, I haven't had Covid as far as I know, though two immediate family members have in the past three weeks, and both were sick for extended periods of time (even though boosted in December). I don't want to be out of work for two weeks. |
Vaccines do not work for people on immunosuppressants. |
They can mask. |
Those people should see if they can get evushield, since Pfizer's antiviral is also contraindicated for many of them. If anyone needs to talk to their doctor about evushield and look for a dose locally, here's a handy tool to find one - https://rrelyea.github.io/evusheld/ Also for consideration for early treatment for people immunosuppressed would be fluvoxamine, which is currently being clincally trialed again after earlier trials showed promise. |
This is funny to me…I see some of these “diligent maskers” around and 99% of them are in a crappy cloth mask. Makes me laugh. If you are in a crappy cloth mask you either 1) think masking is stupid and are just wearing it bc some rule requires it; 2) making a political statement; or 3) completely ignorant. |
| I have to wear one all day at work, so I skip it for the grocery store, etc. Of course I put one on if required, but if it's not then it stays in the car. |
Oh, I’m sure the PP is wearing a KN95. |
I have been one of the most Covid conservative people that I know. But, the most recent comment above really hits home. I’ve actually been feeling really jealous of some of my friends that live in other parts of the country where removing the mask is not something that’s new anymore. Oh I don’t think what they’re doing is wrong and sort of wish we were like that here. However, because it’s not the norm, I wear mine for two reasons. The first is that I want to respect people who don’t feel comfortable without masks. The second is because I feel like I will be judged harshly if I don’t wear one. If I live somewhere else in the country I never would have to grapple with that. |

I went for a walk yesterday on Capitol Hill to enjoy the gorgeous weather during my lunch break. It was about 70 degrees and sunny with a light breeze. For February in DC, it was the most perfect day to breathe fresh air and feel the sun on your face.
I passed people on the sidewalk who were walking alone and wearing a mask. This area is nuts. |
