When are you going to stop wearing masks indoors (stores, etc)

I'm all for masking up if you're sick and absolutely must go out, but it's really getting ridiculous for everyone to be wearing masks without any indication that they're sick or contagious. AND we have vaccines that overwhelmingly, hugely reduce the severity is virtually everyone.

If a business requires it, the obviously respect the owner's wishes. But as a general trend, at what point can we agree that wearing a mask to run an errand is necessary? I say that as someone who is an essential employee and works in person. And I will go on record saying that it's also essential to see people's faces and expressions, at the very least because it's a big form of human communication. And I also say this as someone with Muslim family members who wear niqab (face coverings) - it's a human benefit to see each other's faces as a default (and not mask as the default)

Are you really that much of a germphobe? Are you really severely vulnerable and not vaccinated? Or are you doing it because everyone's doing it? If so, when are you doing to stop with masking indoors? I don't understand why societally, we're continuing to mask when feeling healthy.

I mask if the location requires it or when people feel really uncomfortable(see: height of omicron), even though I think it’s a low benefit intervention. I only mask an hour at a time or do when I have to - not a big deal. But I prefer to go unmasked and started doing so again a week or so ago where allowed.

I went to target today, mask free. I also worked out mask free. I'm fully vaccinated. Enough is enough.

I live in, DC so March 1 for my gym and building hallway. Will respect small business owners’ requirements but will push the issue at Big Box stores if they’re slow to adjust to the Mayor’s relinquishing of the mandate (Wal-Mart was slow the last time around).

(I have worked throughout and no one in my office building masks anymore. Most people let it go after their second shot last Spring).

I dine inside but still wear a mask 90% of the time in stores, especially in small, crowded ones like Trader Joes. In my mind, there's just no reason not to.

Fairfax County is reporting 162 covid positives a day. I know I'm unlikely to get covid in a store, but getting covid is a huge pain in the ass at best.

Not for the foreseeable future, but when cases are very low, we do eat indoors when it's not too crowded, fly long-haul, etc... Very low means less than 5 new cases per 100K, so what we had last summer.

Why does it bother you so much if I wear a mask in the Safeway? I will continue to do so until community spread is super low, as someone stated above. Honestly, you people who are pushing others to drop the mask are so weird.

Because I sincerely don't understand why people continue to wear masks indoors in these circumstances. I'll just ask - why then?

This. Haven't worn one in about a year except on planes.

Because people like you glare at me when I don't wear a mask in the store and tell your children that people like me are selfish morons.

None of these responses sound like anyone's pushing anyone to do anything. People are just making personal choices. I think you're internalizing it because you feel defensive about it...for some odd reason.

Because cases are not low, OP. People are still dying in large numbers. The USA has the highest Covid mortality of ALL wealthy nations, because its people are emotionally immature, refuse delayed gratification, are bad at math and are somewhat lacking in moral fiber.

You can choose to reject all these things, and never experience anyone in your circle dying from Covid. You may never catch Covid. You may have had a very mild case and believe that all cases are mild.

I don't care. I will do the right thing. You will do the wrong thing, persuaded you're not a bad person. We will agree to disagree.

I'm going to wear a mask when indoors around strangers until we understand the prevalence, risk factors for, and severity of long covid and until my youngest child is fully vaccinated, whichever comes second. IDGAF if you want to see my face.
