When are you going to stop wearing masks indoors (stores, etc)

Anonymous
I haven't worn a mask since May 2021.

Not today.

In non essential social activities like dining museums etc (or even in person work) I’m not entirely comfortable unmasking in public. I basically choose what activities and people I’m willing to tolerate some risk for- ie went out for my birthday, went on vaca with my spouse and ate indoors, but not ready to resume that regularly yet and have no problem with people who do.

I don't understand this stance at all because vaccination does not prevent you from getting or transmitting covid, so your coworkers could very well give you covid.

NP but what I think this poster means is that she is lowering risk in areas that are easy to do.. like masking in a grocery store for 30 minutes lowers your risk from getting it there, which overall lowers your risk. Yes, vaccinated people can transmit Covid but they are also less likely to, especially if they are boosted. It’s not like you are trying to eliminate your risk entirely, but there are things you can do to lower your risk in general. It’s not an all or nothing kind of thing.

Going to stores is an awfully low-risk activity. What do you during activities that involve higher-risk exposures, such as family gatherings, daycare, and school? Work might be another another, depending on what you do.

Why do you care? MYOB and STFU about it. Stop lecturing people (and that goes both ways). You don't NEED to understand their decisions. You don't NEED to explain your position to people. You don't NEED to engage at all on this issue. Just shut up.

It's interesting to see people get defensive about masking after the last two years. It's effectively been admitted that most masks we wore for two years did very little, which is surely one of the reasons why Fauci himself initially said it wasn't necessary

No one likes admitting they were lied to for a long time and based their behaviors and beliefs on what was barely anything more than speculation. Many people's responses to COVID became very political and part of their own identities and notion of self-worth.

I'm not defensive. I just can't stand when people don't MYOB. And spout off political talking points - which is exactly what your post and references to Fauci are and nothing more.

You're not a scientist (clearly). You have no business commenting on the effectiveness of masks. My own feelings are that they do work for Covid, viruses in general, pollen, pollution. I've learned this through COVID as well as traveling in other countries where masking is generally accepted.

But regardless of what you think of my reasons (and whether they are good ones or not) you're being a judgmental a$$hole over something that does not negatively affect you. Go maskless if you choose. You're allowed to do so. I don't really care if you get sick or not (from covid or something else) at this point. I don't care if YOU are defensive or guilty over your choice. I honestly don't think about you when I put my mask on. So I don't know why you're thinking about me. Please don't.

Was in the grocery the other day in my mask. Got to my car and realized I didn't even notice who was masked or unmasked. Literally couldn't tell you if they were or werent.

Aw. Poor baby. You're so triggered by the fact that everyone doesn't accept your brilliance that you can't stop posting about it, LOL. Seek therapy, and have a great day!

I gather you are a scientist(TM) and therefore allowed to comment on masks?

PP said they were making decisions by their "own feelings". Not sure science plays into that...

We stopped wearing masks except where mandated (transportation). Still no covid so far.

NP. Here’s an article from a very well regarded Covid cautious scientist on masks:

https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/news-perspective/2021/10/commentary-what-can-masks-do-part-2-what-makes-good-mask-study-and-why-most

I’m no longer bothering with a cloth mask but don’t care in the least if others feel better wearing them. I’ve stocked up on some N95s for the next wave but I am no longer engaging in theater.

I'm back to wearing it. My DC has very symptomatic Covid and is isolating but we were certainly exposed before he tested positive and we are all in the same house even if he is isolating. While I have tested negative I feel like it is better to mask when I need to go out. If it offends you terribly please speak up and I am happy to take my mask off and breathe near you. DC's "mild" covid sure doesn't seem very mild, but you are welcome to expose yourself to that.
