Sure, it makes sense in that light, but that's more reason for taxpayers and constituents to call it out, not less. |
No one is exempted. Being part of the TOV does not guarantee a Madison pyramid |
Thanks. |
| What’s the beef that Sangster parents have with LBSS? It’s comparable to WSHS in most ways. |
Please don't start this pot stirring again. Sangster parents made it very clear last night that they have absolutely no issues with the quality of LB. |

LBSS is a great school. But we are closer to WSHS. You can check for yourself.... Choose a house with an address in the 4700 block of Jenna Road, Springfield. Map it to WSHS and then to LBSS. This morning I did that - to WS it was 11 mins and 3.6 miles to LBSS is 16 mins and 5.6 Miles and Passes WSHS en route. I also mapped addresses down near Modisto Lane that are at WS and staying there. Further milage, longer travel time AND they pass the Hunstman Estates bus stop. |
There’s an additional meeting tonight because there’s a football game between Chantilly and Westfield on Thursday. |
What are the main concerns of people from Chantilly and Westfield? Just curious as we live nearby but not in either of those pyramids. How are they feeling about the proposed maps for the new high school? Are there any groups that really do or do not want tobe moved to the new school, or moved to a different high school as a result of new boundaries being drawn to account for the new school? |
Okay, I'll play. I just Google mapped it: 4700 Jenna Rd, Springfield, VA 22153 Distance to Sangster - 1 mile to Orange Hunt - 1.4 miles to Irving MS - 3.4 miles to Sangster - 4.8 miles to WSHS - 3.5 or 3.9 miles It's a whopping 1 extra mile. |
Actually, they made it very clear they do not want their kids going to LBSS. It's not part of their community. They don't feel like it's a good fit for their kids, even though many of their kids' friends go on to LBSS while their kids move on to Irvinig. And one woman has a terrible fear about her child being accosted by upperclassmen at LBSS. But, to be fair, she appeared to be an outlier. |
It's pretty shady that FCPS is holding the Madison pyramid meeting on October 29 when Vienna hosts its big Halloween parade, which is hosts the Wednesday before Halloween every year. The families that attend that 9huge) parade are the ones who will want to speak at that meeting. And to be clear, I have no skin in this game - our schools are not being discussed for boundary changes - but I think optics matter, and this, to me, reeks of not really wanting to hear from the constituents. |
Thanks for playing! I am glad you came to the same conclusion
I do not know which route you chose because the shortest route added 2 miles (Down hillside) the longer route down Burke Lake Rd added even more time and milage. Living in our community, I am sure you can also see how the minutes between the two, even only one mile, will vary greatly, especially during bus route times. I am glad we are in agreement by the numbers. |

She was not a Sangster parent. |
| I wonder how they decide which schools to put together. Fairfax and Woodson together only makes sense due to proximately but no students are moving from one to the other. Fairfax is losing kids to Chantilly and Oakton. The Oakton move makes no sense it's not a split feeder situation and Johnson Middle is way closer than Thoreau and Providence is about equal distance to Oakton ES and to get to Oakton ES the bus has to navigate the nasty intersection at 123 and Chain Bridge. It removes a higher income neighborhood from Providence and still leaves Oakton Park and Fairfax Village apartment at Providence and they are county not city kids. Probably not moving any of them to Oakton since low income. The main exit from those apartments is directly to 123. |
There is also a short one tonight for Chantilly/Westfield. Dear Families, We understand that the community boundary review meeting scheduled for the Chantilly and Westfield pyramids on October 30 conflicts with an athletic event that is expected to affect families in both pyramids. While the October 30 meeting will continue as scheduled, we have added an earlier hybrid meeting for families in the Chantilly and Westfield pyramids who are unable to attend on the 30th. The additional meeting will be held in person at Fairfax High School and virtually via Zoom on Tuesday, October 28, from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Enter through Door 1. The consultant will present the latest draft map, Scenario 4, and changes specific to the Chantilly and Westfield pyramids. They will also take questions. Please help us plan for this meeting by registering to attend. Click in person or virtual based on how you would like to participate. (A Woodson/Fairfax pyramid meeting will immediately follow at 6:30 p.m. in the same space.) If you plan to participate in person, feel free to come to the event at 5:30 p.m. to explore Scenario 4 in the Boundary Explorer Tool. (Scenario 4 is the only option available at this time for community review and feedback. Scenario 3 is included in the Boundary Explorer Tool only as a point of reference and comparison.) A limited number of FCPS laptops will be available, and staff will be on site to support you in using the tool. If you plan to participate virtually, you may log on at 5:30 p.m., and a staff member can walk you through how to use the tool. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. Note: Each high school pyramid is represented on the Superintendent's Boundary Review Advisory Committee. In addition to leaving feedback on the Boundary Explorer Tool, you can find your pyramid representative’s email address to share feedback or ask questions. Please visit the FCPS website for more information. Thank you. Fairfax County Public Schools |
