Hayfield Football Coach Fired

Anonymous
I'm a Robinson football parent and we're not the ones crying that we got bumped out of playoffs. We know why we originally made it and why we ultimately got bumped out. Stop with your scorn and sympathy. We're big boys over here and don't need people posting about how undeserving we were to be in the playoffs. I'm not personally commenting on my opinion about Hayfield or any of this football situation. Just want people to stop posting that we're the crybabies or poor losers in all of this because we're not.

My wife asked last night so I think the teams should boycott and forfeit

I’m on the fence, I get it, you’re taking an ethical and moral stand here

On the other hand, you play you lose you lose what if you play hayfield and you win

I rather think the southeast VA schools will take hayfield to school in the larger bracket that’s just my thinking

I will say again that if all the games were played this week and hayfield lost the dec 4 hearing won’t happen

If they win it will still happen but it could still end with them continuing to play.

When is the state final, I thought it was always first week of December but now it’ll be a week later because of this round happening a week later correct

So I guess my thought is this. Get to the 12/4 hearing and hayfield has what 1 maybe 2 more games…does anyone really think the court says no no no you can’t play seems unlikely to be honest.

Anyway this is all very entertaining, I guess I’m at the point where I’m a bit more just play the damn games already and settle this stuff on the field. You don’t think those other seven teams and coaches and the down south schools won’t go for blood. I know they will maybe they lose but I don’t think anyone is looking at their team and saying be scared, I’m think they’re all telling their team if we play them they hurt us the first time now let’s go kick their ass, shut them up, and send them packing. Then for your basketball and other sport players when you hit the fields or the mat the track the court you play hayfield this year and you bring the hurt as payback. You let those other hayfield athletes know it’s not personal but it’s about sending a message to the people in charge about what’s right and what’s wrong.

The state schedule didn’t change because of this. Region 6c condensed theirs.

What can be realistically done ? That’s easy.

1. Overton: He should be fired immediately. No one man should be allowed to create this much chaos, statewide, and still be receiving a paycheck from FFX Cty. If he wants to sue, great, I would love to see that deposition, under oath. Reid can fire him today. This should have happened the day VHSL imposed their ban.

(2) Hayfield principal:Should be Fired. But, let go gracefully, so not to interrupt the school year. He/she/they is captain of this sinking ship, and should be held accountable.

Again, Reid can do this today. It does not fix everything, but it is something.

Robinson alum from the first state title year (not football player though). The team was 3-7 and like you said you knew how you got in. Sounds like team prepped like it should and then things happened. We’ve always had a strong athletic culture and I don’t think any of you have been crybabies or losers. I’m curious did the team kind of feel like really were going to play? Were like not really good so like this is like yay playoffs with a so umm we ah might umm you know lose which would suck

And it was going to be against Braddock at Braddock right

That game generally goes pretty hard but if one team is not as strong as the other it really sucks the intensity out

Like Braddock may be like yea we wanna beat our rival but like if your rival is pretty lackluster, it’s more like okay we won yay but doesn’t have that like statement kind of feel

I remember when we beat Braddock in the late 90s and then had a hardcore rivalry with Centerville those years, those were absolute banger games to watch and be a part of. Everyone was super into it players coaches band cheerleaders students alums etc

Why on earth do we care if your wife asked your opinion? How weird.

It also appears schools are still contemplating a boycott. What a mess.

Source?

The schools threatening are irrelevant. They don’t have the talent to beat Hayfield. They can go out there and have fun, but their chances of winning are slim.

If the schools in the south side of the bracket all boycott, that could shake things up. But those school probably won’t because those teams are more competitive and most of them feel they are capable of beating Hayfield. Heck Madison or W&L isn’t going to take a forfeit either. They probably don’t want to play Hayfield, but I would be surprised if they let the outside drama get in the way of them giving their best effort in their championship runs.

It's not about talent at this point. They are standing on principle. Saying they are sick of FCPS and all te crap they let Hayfield pull. What they did was wrong. Stop trying to make it like these kids are scared of losing. It's ridiculous.

The kids ARE scared of losing. My son plays at LBSS and that's all they talk about. They know they have no chance.

In reality only a couple of kids at LBSS will have the opportunity, based on athleticism, to go further playing Football as opposed as those in Hayfield's team.

As for the parents, who are they kidding? Entitlement at its finest...

Are you nuts? All the teams in that division were at school getting ready, dressing for the game when the judge ruled. Everyone prepared for the scheduled games. Booster groups spent thousands of dollars on concessions.

Bullshit. The kids aren't scared of losing. They know they will lose because the deck has been unfairly stacked. They aren't "scared".

If you're scared, you've already lost. Blame yourself, blame your coach, go play a SOFT SPORT like lacrosse or soccer. THIS IS WHAT YOU PEOPLE DO -- If you can't beat'em, then disqualify'em.

Because of the Hayfield s-show, teams will have to play 3 games in 9 days. Very unfair to the other schools players.

Nonsense. No one cares about losing to a bunch of disqualified cheaters.

The School Board may have renewed Reid’s contract but she is incompetent. It’s not just her bungling of the Hayfield situation. The whole situation with the boundary advisory committee was a mess, too, with people not being properly notified whether they were selected for the committee or not.

I don’t see anything that she does well and FCPS’s reputation just continues to decline. If she had a shred of decency she would step down immediately.

Because you don't punish innocent people for the actions of a few.

If you count your “few” as 30 players, then sure, don’t punish them. 99.99999% of the global population, at a basic level of mathematics and basic understanding of American football, would count 30 players as the entire starting lineup of any football program and more than just a “few.” Absolutely find a way to punish this football program for this gross display unsportsmanship.

Absolutely find a way to prevent this team from playing. Absolutely fire the head coach, DSA and principal and make rules that prevent this type of conduct from ever happening again. This is the only way address this issue presently. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

If - as seems likely but no one has proven - the accusations against Hayfield are true do you think the rest of the team and at least half the school did not know?

There is no “If” here. “If” you had any concept of the VHSL rules and “If” you had any background knowledge or history of Hayfield’s current coach, then you would not be using “If.” You would be using “When.”
