Single Issue Voter: Controlling The Borders

Anonymous
So seems like Chicago Mayor is suing buses that are bringing migrants to Chicago. He is Blaming Texas for causing this problem.

So Texas gets 5000 migrants a day, every day. Currently there are about 2-4 million migrants in Texas. Chicago gets 5000 migrants sent by Buses from Texas. Rest have come by other means like flights and other transport by federal govt. Chicago has about 30k migrants and are complaining about it.

Johnson can’t do squat to stop migrants from coming to Chicago. 100k, 1 million…….

Once these migrants are “processed” by CBD, they are given notices to appear before a judge in many cases 4-8 years from now.

Until then , they are allowed to be here legally. They can go anywhere they want. New York, Chicago, DC. Anywhere. So Johnson can’t stop anything.

If he has an issue, bring it up with Biden.

Waiting for a Democrat to come and assure us that “most illegal immigrants show up at their hearings.” What a pathetic joke.

There's a huge backlog, because of how the laws are written, which requires they get a hearing before they can be deported. There's a huge backlog, because there aren't enough officials to hear the cases. There aren't enough officials, because any attempt to get more funding has been blocked. Guess who hasn't helped to change the laws? Republicans. Guess who keeps blocking funding that would help clear the backlog and get them deported sooner? Republicans.

You didn't and won't hear about any of that on FOX News but it's unfortunately true...

Sweetie, I don't watch FOX News. I do, however, read. Do you? Guess who keeps blocking any effort to make border legislation far more strict? Democrats.

The debate over border security in Congress is ultimately about whether the United States should accept much more immigration than federal law allows.

To many Democratic politicians and immigration activists, the answer is yes. They believe that the U.S. has a humanitarian responsibility to admit millions of migrants who live in countries that are poorer or beset by turmoil. These immigration proponents believe that the proposals in Congress to toughen border security are cruel and xenophobic, needlessly turning away people who are eager to contribute to American society.

To many Republican politicians — and most voters, polls suggest — the porous southern border is an urgent problem. Since President Biden took office, the number of people apprehended at the border (a proxy for flows of illegal immigration) has risen more than fourfold compared with the average level in the 2010s. The data suggest that thousands of people are entering the country illegally each day. This surge has created chaos in parts of southern Texas and Arizona and has strained resources as far away as Chicago, Denver and New York.

Republicans have said that they will not pass a package of aid for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan unless it includes policies to tighten the southern border.

The Republican border proposals are an attempt to make illegal entry to the U.S. more difficult and, by extension, to change perceptions in Latin America.

Today, migrants who manage to set foot on U.S. soil can often claim asylum. Some genuinely qualify because they have a credible fear of repression in their home countries. Many others do not qualify, but they have learned that claiming asylum allows them to remain in the U.S. for months, if not years, while their case is heard.

Congressional Republicans favor several measures to change this system. One would temporarily shut the border — allowing almost no new asylum claims — if migration flows were to rise above a certain level. Another measure would make it easier for U.S. officials to detain and deport migrants who did not have credible asylum claims. A third would require migrants to have first applied for asylum in countries through which they traveled, like Mexico.

Gee if only the Democrats had introduced a bill to hire more judges to clear the backlog faster so that they had a date faster than nearly a decade away.

Oh they did? What did the GOP do with the bill, do you think?

Gee, if only Republicans had introduced a bill to make asylum much more difficult to qualify for and requiring migrants to apply for asylum in the FIRST country they reach. Oh, they did?? Why are "progressives" calling this "xenophobic and cruel" and refusing to pass it?

This woman will probably have an anchor baby by the time 2031 rolls around.

Yep. Unless Republican-proposed legislation ending birthright citizenship goes through. We'll have Democrats to thank if it doesn't.

Grow up. Republicans have put forth exactly what legislation needs to change to protect our border. “Progressive” Democrats are holding things up by not signing and moving it along.

This is absolutely the number one issue for me and millions of other Americans.

That is grade-a NONSENSE. They grandstand and pretend but haven't actually come up with any coherent legislation that would actually fix the issues. And, they aren't actually interested in fixing it, because it serves them better as a political wedge.

Wow, that's some projection. I've just listed exactly the proposals Republicans have come up with. Progressives are insisting it's "cruel and inhumane" and are lobbying hard for Congress not to pass this legislation. You really seem to know absolutely nothing about what's going on.

So I hope people like OP understand what is happening here.

BS! He's not trying to "obstruct" anything, he's trying to get the bill read and voted on in its entirety instead of jammed through before the holiday. Did you even bother to listen to what he was saying? Obviously not.

The left fell off a cliff and we are now in the Twilight Zone. I'd love a Bill Clinton to take charge here.

Completely agree.

Can you cite any of this for us? Because dems here sound way more informed on the ins and outs of who has proposed and blocked what. And it very much seems like republicans are purposefully doing nothing. Since they shocked themselves with actually overturning Roe, they need a new wedge issue.

DP. Seriously? Not one Democrat has cited anything to back up their claims. Republicans, otoh, have cited plenty.

Take a look at the Russia-Ron Johnson tweet above.

In other words, completely disagree.

Maybe listen to what he's actually saying instead of spinning up the usual stupid takes? The two PPs are 100% correct.

“Immigration policy must protect U.S. workers against unfair competition from foreign workers, with an appropriately higher level of protection to the most vulnerable in our society”
– June 28, 1995

"The Commission is particularly concerned about the impact of immigration on the most disadvantaged within our already resident society – inner city youth, racial and ethnic minorities, and recent immigrants who have not yet adjusted to life in the U.S.”
– August 3, 1994

barbara jordan, when Democrats were moderate and focused on helping US workers first. Now the sxck up to the urban elite.

+1
And anyone stating such common sense today is excoriated as "racist" in these bizarro times.

As someone that has worked in Immigrations since the mid 90s I can say that it has never been even half this bad. As of a couple of days ago apprehensions topped 200k for the month of December. We’ll see probably our first ever 300k plus apprehension month This month. We are now releasing 150k -200k people per month into the country. The number of gottaways (known and unknown) will likely be well north of 100k (possibly north of 200k) per month. Go ahead and do the math. Prior to these open border non immigration enforcement policies the record for apprehensions was approx 1.6 million around 2000. But they were 95 percent Mexican makes And almost all were returned voluntarily to Mexico. Now these masses are coming from all over the globe and gaming our lax asylum laws. Under law aliens that illegally enter the U.S. and claim “fear” are mandatory detention until a final decision has been reached (see 8 USC 1225). The government is violating that provision of immigration law 5K-10k times per day. I can literally go on and on about the complete melt down that was entirely created and encouraged by the policies of this administration. There is basically ZERO enforcement of our immigration laws and the world knows it.

In your mind how many people illegally entering the country would be considered a problem? Or an invasion? 1 million? 2? 3? 10 ?
Since the arrival of Biden and Mayorkas the illegal alien population has increased by approximately 10 million. The vast vast vast majority of these individuals are not educated and will (in my opinion) be a financial burden. Many are barely literate and posses only a few years of education (quite a few are actually unable to read or write).

Well, well, well. Democrats are obviously still in full support of the unprecedented invasion of our country.

Thing is, Democrats refuse to welcome one single migrant into their home. How about Democrats offer up unused acreage to build housing for these people? Don’t migrants deserve a warm bed at night? There simply aren’t enough hotel rooms.

Outrageous how Democrats seem to believe that migrants should be left to fend for themselves this winter inside of freezing tents. Baby, It’s Cold Outside!

Why won’t you at least share your guest room? A weary young couple with a newborn would be most grateful.

It is pretty astounding that we don’t see the usual crocodile tears from the left - after all, it is Christmas time and it is cold outside. So curious that Democrats aren’t mobilizing to bring all of these immigrants to share their safe warm houses. Actually, it’s very cruel and inhumane. Blood is on their hands.

The highest November on record. And, December is shaping up to be worse.
