I like Rice and glad to hear this about her.

Me too. I’m also listening to and watching Grisham debate. Grisham is very, very engaging. Not that should should be a criteria at all, but she also has a very pleasant speaking voice. She seems genuinely warm, intelligent, bi-partisan (acknowledging McCain initiatives that support). So what is the bad about her? Why hasn’t she been put on the larger platform more?

Can the DNC put out another “town hall” where the VP candidates also just express their views? Not a debate, not a fight but even better demonstration of a unified party, no matter who VP is. Get out an introduction for the swing voters. Is there a way to do this without there being some chaotic problem grabbing everyone’s attention that they later step to the mic for? Not sure how this works at all. Is it as simple as purchasing a broadcast a lot? Or putting out a YouTube, like comedian Dave Chapelle did for 8:46?

Nothing bad in particular that I know of, but she represents an electorally insignificant state and there are pretty huge cultural differences within the Latino bloc she may not be able to speak to. And media has insisted a Black woman be chosen, though Duckworth's military service and electoral value to swing voters could possibly override.

I can't believe Susan Rice is being considered seriously. No doubt she is smart and has the capacity to be VP, but here are the three strikes against her: 1) Benghazi, as stated above. GOP can't wait to go Benghazi all over her; 2) she's never been elected to anything and now she's going to be the VP?; 3) Obama retread. Biden's appeal is that he's not Trump, knows Washington and will set some things to right. Bringing back a major figure of the Obama administration undercuts all of that.

The Benghazi disaster is HRC. Susan Rice just spoke what she knew on a TV talk show. She has spent her life working in government including the executive branch. The current President had zero government experience. She is the one I’d trust of all the VP candidates to deftly handle North Korea, China, Iran and Russia on day one. She helped set up the global health department and helped brief the Trump administration on the pandemic playbook he threw away. The rest of the candidates are years behind her in preparation and knowledge. There is no shame in being tied to Obama.

Even if many reasonable people know all of this to be true, it'll just be too easy to demonize her in attack ads. She's incredibly well qualified but she's an intelligentsia pick who will have exactly zero appeal to swing voters and middle America.

Rice is exceptionally well spoke and sharp, but she can be quite abrasive. No warmth or charm, which I think is a problem in retail politics. If middle America accepts the right's "lying" tag, it could sink the ticket just like similar negatives sunk HRC.

Also little to no foreign policy experience and has been very restrained in supporting BLM. A couple of posts supporting freedom to protest in NM that reference anti-racism but nothing sustained or substantive. I think this rules her out. The Black community would not be happy with her.

^^^in contrast Duckworth and Warren have both been outspoken supporters of BLM and both have written op-eds to that effect.

Black PP and I don’t know that I agree with that given her record in advocating for issues supporting the black and Hispanic community. I think most Biden voters are BNMW, to include the black electorate. That is the basis for identifying a candidate with the strongest electability with swing voters. I don’t know why the media keeps insisting the person be black. Most people in the black community aren’t demanding this. BLM is not the entire diaspora. I actually think it could work to her benefit rather, that she isn’t a poster child for BLM. Particularly with the target swing voters.

NM and AZ are important states this election. NM is likely in the bag but AZ is vitally important.

Great point, but AZ is trending in our favor and black turnout is even more critically important. Because the media has set the expectation, there would be blowback if he doesn't pick an AA VP that could potentially depress turnout.

So make her Sec of State. I'd love her as Sec of State.

Obviously elections are partisan anyway - but I feel like she will make it hard for Republicans who are sick of Trump to vote for Biden. She's too closely associated with that hyper partisan event. That's my perspective on it, anyway. The 538 podcast seemed to think she's one of the top three candidates for VP, though - yesterday's podcast. Her, Warren, and Harris. Of the three of them I would take Harris, I think.

I don't know.

This. All of this. And especially the bolded. The argument that she "just spoke what she knew on a TV talk show" is ridiculous. She was the national security adviser. As far as Trump having no government experience, true, but so what? A long career in government with a lot of expertise is not necessarily a prized qualification in pulling voters away from Trump. And no one said there's any shame in being tied to Obama, but there's also the reality that she's a controversial figure from the Obama administration.

I despise that we live in a world of “both sides” in which this is a rational post, but here we are.
