Hayfield Football Coach Fired

Anonymous
Does anyone know what the brackets are supposed to be. The schools split the gate and it’s alot of lost money for the schools that need it. Don’t see forfeits happening.

When FCPS is calling the cops on reporters trying to cover a meeting, you know that the district must feel really secure in their position.

What a mess. Sure doesn't given one any confidence that a district that couldn't manage to do a thorough public investigation in the summer will be able to address boundary reviews or other issues with any credibility

If Reid can’t properly manage their relations with six football coaches then they are definitely going to have bigger issues with thousands of parents if they try to cram boundary changes down their throats. The Hayfield fiasco is the proverbial canary in the coal mine. Reid may have gotten her contract renewed but she is skating on thin ice now.

Nothing. These HS principals, coaches, and parents are working off emotion. I don't have a dog in this fight but FCPS can't do anything now. A court has ruled on the injunctuon. If FCPS tries to act they will just be sued too. The time for FCPS to act was earlier. Now they have to wait until Dec. 4 like everyone else.

Yes. This. From above linked article. Current winners or best sports parents are those at Mt Vernon for putting in writing. Also for best coaches, the 6 that signed letter to Reid. THEY are showing their kids and players what’s right. Those lessons will last longer than any game. How does one send a gift basket of thanks to an entire school of parents? They deserve it for standing up.

On Tuesday, football team parents at Mount Vernon High School in Alexandria sent a letter to the principal and athletic director, stating, “The parents of Mount Vernon High School football student-athletes stand in unified support of the Virginia High School League’s (VHSL) decision prohibiting Hayfield Secondary School’s varsity football team from participating in the 2024 and 2025 football state championship playoffs.”

They also added that they “wholly endorse” a letter from City of Fairfax School Board Chair Carolyn Pitches to the FCPS School Board. “The letter perfectly summarizes the inadequacies of FCPS’s handling of the Hayfield issue,” they said.”

The rival school across town endorses the hate of Hayfield. So what?

So now it's hate that they expect all schools who fall under VHSL to follow the rules?

Run playoffs 1 week longer than normally scheduled.

FCPS doesn't control playoffs. VHSL does. This reminds me of all the people who blame the President for gas prices.

FCPS could conduct a real investigation, but they won't. The schools could boycott the playoff games.

That’s why it’s highly unusual the superintendent blocked the journalists from doing their work.

This whole story gets stranger by the day.

You can tell by the sheer number of times reporters have said FCPS referred them to VFOIA for various fairly straightforward requests (I even saw this in a Patch article!) that reporters think FCPS is being shady. They just don't come quite out and say it because they are writing articles and not opinion pieces. But they clearly think FCPS at a minimum is not giving them adequate press freedom.

It also appears schools are still contemplating a boycott. What a mess.

Source?

The schools threatening are irrelevant. They don’t have the talent to beat Hayfield. They can go out there and have fun, but their chances of winning are slim.

If the schools in the south side of the bracket all boycott, that could shake things up. But those school probably won’t because those teams are more competitive and most of them feel they are capable of beating Hayfield. Heck Madison or W&L isn’t going to take a forfeit either. They probably don’t want to play Hayfield, but I would be surprised if they let the outside drama get in the way of them giving their best effort in their championship runs.

They aren't *irrelevant* because they aren't stacked cheaters. Jesus H.

It was last night, but just tried now and has access denied.

I'm sure someone has it somewhere!

It risks litigation and $$$ you probably rather they spend on education. I know I do. It's too late. They should have acted sooner.

In the Defector article, its clear that FCPS is not properly responding to FOIA requests.
Anonymous
Definitely want FOIA now much this is costing FCPS. Should be paid by Reid, Hayfield principal and district superintendent who all should have shut this down long ago. And School Board should immediately part ways with Blankenship firm.
Anonymous
Someone should text the 'sports reporter' Lady Money who did the interview and hosted it on her channel what happened to her video?

Madison baseball recruits. (But, but, no, the best players and their families are attracted to a top-notch winning program. They pupil-place into Latin, rent homes for four years, participate in pay-to-play camps, practice in off-season not as a team but as a travel club.)

Who are we fooling?

Hayfield proselytizes. (May the mighty Lord inflict flames of vengeance upon Hayfield nation!)

If that's the case lodge a complaint. Everyone says everyone else did it...so in so does it...THEN SAY SOMETHING who can do something about it. Overton messed with the wrong parents and here we are.

Yessir. Here we are. #Hayfieldby40 We be playing, we still winning, y'all keep crying.

You don't realize how badly your comment makes you look. Parents within your program have publicly admitted they violated rules and you are bragging about winning. As per usual, it is the Hayfield players who suffer because they clearly have no intelligent, moral, decent adult role models to look up to.

What parents have come forward, they are of an adult age so don’t have to be “protected” where are these things where are the fb posts twitter rants and the like, I’m sure someone would have screenshots of these alleged actions. Otherwise it’s propaganda and fake news

Carleton Hughes, father of a Freedom/Hayfield defensive back is on the record about why his kid transferred: "Whether it was one transfer or 30, kids and parents could transfer and play for who they want to play for. That's it. You can't stop that. If you follow college sports, with the transfer portal, kids transfer all the time."

Right there, he admitted his allowed his kid to transfer for athletic purposes, which violates VHSL rules. By the way, this guy seems like a garbage father, I feel bad for his kid.

When will you Overton boosters learn you are your own worst enemy? You are too unintelligent to keep up. That is also why Overton has to jump from coaching gig to coaching gig - he isn't smart enough to hold one down. And yet you fools keep following him. Pathetic.

Some parents do not understand that this is not college. High school does not have a transfer portal. I love that these parents are shooting themselves in the foot. So loud and WRONG!

Not only is this not college, but NCAA has strict rules around the transfer portal and it brings transparency (even if many former college athletes think there are major issues with it's existence). I'd say the analogy this parent was really searching for was travel/club play, which is the wild wild west when it comes to players moving whenever and teams making choices for the benefit of the coach/org.

They can investigate and suspend or expel the students. They can fire the coach. The team would still compete, but without those players or coaches
