Obama again bipassed congress and the people using an executive order and has relaxed the work requirement for welfare.
SHOCKING!! http://www.finance.senate.gov/newsroom/ranking/release/?id=9b2d0e3c-0ba4-4a30-ab0c-25500ab66d7d What else will Obama do by executive order? He has already granted immunity to illegals. Without the fear of losing re-election Obama will use this technigue to ram rod his hidden left wing agenda if re-elected for another term. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10000872396390444358404577607653771401124.html |
You are sad, OP. |
Truth hurts? Waiting for the CNN "fact checker" to pick this up. |
Hatch and Camp should be ashamed of themselves for stooping to this level. They don't even link to the GAO report so that we can read it ourselves. As far as I can tell, the GAO only concluded that the Obama Administration rule must be submitted to Congress. I just analyzed the HHS memorandum in another post and provided a link to it. It does not weaken the work requirements. The press release to which you link is clearly misleading about the HHS actions and potentially misleading about the GAO report itself. It demonstrates a clear lack of integrity among these two Republican officials. Let's see the GAO report and then conclude what it says. Obviously, there is a reason Hatch and Camp failed to make it available along with their press release. A simple web link should be within their capacity. |
It is no coincidence that HHS would attempt to write their release in a way to hide the true implications. If the GAO report confirms what is stated as true in the senate.gov press release it is a MAJOR blow not just to Obama but against the "fact check" media attempting to debunk Romney's claim. If this is true then more people will question the credibility of news sources and consider them anti-romney. I guess what the right says about the "liberal media" is proving to be correct. |
Are we serious about the budget deficit or not? Because people who are serious about the budget deficit shouldn't be worried about welfare payments. Jesus. |
The HHS document is an official memorandum that lays out policy. It is not a press release. Policy statements should be as clear as possible in order to be useful. You can read the memorandum yourself if you wish: http://www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/ofa/policy/im-ofa/2012/im201203/im201203.html It seems pretty clear to me. On the other hand, two partisan Members of Congress have much more motivation to hide the true implications of the GAO report. I agree with you on this: "If the GAO report confirms what is stated as true in the senate.gov press release it is a MAJOR blow not just to Obama but against the "fact check" media attempting to debunk Romney's claim. " However, I strongly doubt that GAO report is going to confirm anything from Hatch's press release other than the GAO believes the memorandum should be submitted to Congress. I will bet money that the report does not say that work requirements were gutted. Of course, the memorandum allows work requirements to be waived, but the law allows that. However, it allows the specific work requirements to be waived in lieu of stronger work requirements. Again, I will bet money that the GAO report does not validate Romney's false ads that state that Obama gutted the work requirements. |
B-323772 September 4, 2012 The Honorable Orrin Hatch Ranking Member Committee on Finance United States Senate The Honorable Dave Camp Chairman Committee on Ways and Means House of Representatives By letter of July 31, 2012, you asked whether an Information Memorandum issued by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on July 12, 2012 concerning the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program constitutes a rule for the purposes of the Congressional Review Act (CRA). 1 The CRA is intended to keep Congress informed of the rulemaking activities of federal agencies and provides that before a rule can take effect, the agency must submit the rule to each House of Congress and the Comptroller General. 2 For the reasons discussed below, we conclude that the July 12, 2012 Information Memorandum is a rule under the CRA. Therefore, it must be submitted to Congress and the Comptroller General before taking effect. http://www.gao.gov/assets/650/647778.pdf |
The downgrade welfare food stamp wind farm president. |
The GAO recommendation validates the fact that it is a rule and needs to be up for congressional debate and vote. If put up before congress, the implications of how this reduces or removes the work requirements will be discussed in depth. |
Thank you for this. This confirms my prediction. The letter from the GAO is solely focused on whether the HHS memorandum is a rule or not a rule. The GAO concludes it is a rule and, as such, must be submitted to Congress. The letter does not address even in the slightest the suggest that the memorandum gut the work requirements of welfare. As such, the Hatch press release is completely misleading and demonstrates his total lack of commitment to the truth. I invite everyone to read Hatch's press release and then the GAO letter itself to see the level of deception in which these two Republican officials were willing to engage. |
The fact that it is a rule change is implications of modifying or removing the work requirement. Can you define what the "rule is", is the rule "work requirement"? |
This is what the GAO says: "Specifically, the Information Memorandum informs states that HHS will use its statutory authority to consider waiver requests, and sets out requirements that waiver requests must meet. Accordingly, it is designed to implement, interpret, or prescribe law or policy." That is actually a pretty good summary of the HHS document. If you read it, you will see that it repeatedly stresses that work requirements cannot be weakened. However, to directly answer your question, I guess this would constitute "modifying" the work requirement. |
Wow, these guys are just desperate to find some evil nefarious plot here. They just can't make this shit up fast enough, can they? |
Hopefully Obama can do the honorable thing and stop calling Romney a liar on gutting the welfare work requirement. |
