No idea. I'm pretty sure that DOH has just forgotten about the policy and doesn't care because, in practical terms, it only applies to 5-11 year old public school students.

Why only starting at 5?

That's when mandatory school tends to start. Younger than that and we're generally talking daycare, nursery school etc which are private entities and can make up any rules they want.

Not true. DC daycares follow OSSE rules and so my 2yo can't drive to see his vaccinate grandparents without quarantine afterward.

Let's not get hung up on this. I think the person just meant "in the age to be in public schools" and spoke imprecisely.

Although, as I understand it, the OSSE language is a recommendation, while the DCPS language is a rule. Suggesting that daycares can also take it as a recommendation.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yea, that's what I was trying to say. Daycares do not have to follow the rule.

+1

Not all DC daycares follow the OSSE guidelines. We’ve traveled multiple times out of the DMV and sent our kid to daycare the day we got back. And no we didn’t hide our travels from the daycare.

The OSSE guidelines for child care use 2 different words: should and must. Should means, not mandatory, must means mandatory. The guidelines in regard to travel use the word must. If you’re good with your center not following licensing rules, cool.

So let me get this straight - DC kids can’t travel outside of the DMV after a year and a half of a missed life, but DC teachers, students, and employees can show up to school unvaccinated and like life as usual? Will anyone actually vote for Bowser again? DC is so pathetic.

You had the whole summer to travel. 9 weeks of complete freedom from DCPS. Why is everyone so angry? There is barely any time to travel besides Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Spring Break.

In addition, there are 3-day weekends virtually every month plus a week off in February and, honestly, a trip to a neighboring state (non MD/VA) in a car can EASILY be done in 48 hours.

I'm pretty sure DCPS dropped the travel policy. Why are we still fighting about this?

Can you show us the updated OSSE handbook or DCPS guidance where it has been dropped?

Our school told us about the policy late last week. If it's been dropped, they're not aware of it.

It is not mentioned anywhere in the most recent update from DCPS. It may still exist in a manual somewhere but I am going to take this to mean that even if the rule exists, it will not be enforced.

I hope your interpretation is correct! The other guidance came from OSSE though and they don't appear to have adjusted it, so who wins out in this situation?

I will never understand how people can be so selfish. Travel all you want, Then quarantine. It's so simple.
