One thing I noticed in the beginning is the parents who started #openfcps were mostly from atholen and Cohen's districts. It stands to reason that they would be unhappy with their own school hoard reps, and started petitions locally. |
+1,000 to both PPs. |
Eh, no one’s perfect, especially politicians. Omeish bothers me the most , especially if that bit about encouraging “jihads” is true. I like that Cohen stands up for teachers. Someone needs to because leadership throws them to the wolves any damn chance they get. |

| The Fairfax GOP should be able to give you what you need. |
Whether it's the Fairfax GOP or unaffiliated candidates who haven't sought party endorsements, we need something different from what the Democrats served up in 2019. |
Given that academics were better when the board was balanced or dominated by GOP endorsed folks, I wholeheartedly agree. |
I personally think the Fairfax GOP is their own brand of crazy just like the FCDC. I don't trust them. I want unaffiliated candidates. -former R |
The FCDC will claim any candidates they haven’t endorsed are crazy right-wing Republicans, so get ready for that. |
I already saw they claim anyone they don't like just might be KKK or at least a KKK sympathizer. That was...cute. |
| I am one of the "accidental activists" in the OpenFCPS group and previous posters are correct. Prior to this year, I didn't follow our school board much, if at all. But I have watched probably 70% of the board meetings (some 4+ hours long), read every set of board documents and read mounds of research and media articles. And it's with that knowledge that I became involved in the recall effort. I am incredibly unhappy with the direction of our board and district. I want to elect members to the board who don't have political agendas and who want to get into the nitty gritty of the management. I think there is far too much group think on the board and I am looking forward to electing members who can represent my voice. |
Same here. I am a fairly liberal Democrat but I am hating all the energy this School Board is wasting on trying to be politically correct. I guess I can see why they hired Brabrand who knows how to talk that talk and sits in front of photos of ethnically diverse kids for the camera. I just want people who are practical and can deal with current problems and issues effectively and are committed to a good hard audit of Gatehouse. They need to stop gumming up the works by instituting newfangled theories, policies, and curriculum by decree that no one needs or asked for. |
That’s a great answer and if you were standing in front of me with your recall petition, I would sign it. |
Yes x1000. The current Board basically has three factions: the far-left activists, the pork barrel politicians who look only to benefit their neighborhoods and ignore everyone else in their districts, and Megan McLaughlin, who would have been a typical Board member years ago but now is a voice in the wilderness. The first two factions scratch each other’s backs and the losers are the families in the county who’d prefer a board that focuses on academics and prudent fiscal oversight. |
Those aren’t activists. They are people playing at being activists, and they end up making “the left” look like clueless idiots. |
