Political Discussion
I don’t see Phillips trying to move to go forward. I see him chanting and beating his drum in the boy’s face and none of the groups moving toward each other except the native group approached the boys. If the native man had moved to either side and the boy blocked him and moved with him, that’s blocking. Standing face to face with someone who approaches you isn’t blocking. |
Yes, a few natives walked into a crowd purposely. If a few of any people walk into a crowd of larger people you are inserting yourself into a larger crowd to be “surrounded.” If 3 people walk into a crowd of 100 yes by sheer numbers they will be “outnumbered.” Should the boys all have dispersed so the native men could take their area? |
| Phillips walked directly to the boy and madeni attempts to get passed him. He got in his face and chanted and beat his drum. |
Look at the video again. he's trying to walk through the crowd - and that is what he told WaPo. |
He walked into the crowd because he says they were harassing some other people. Yes, the crowd should have let him pass through. |
|
Made no attempts to get around him.
Also, who was harassed off camera? Which boys were harassed off camera? Zero details. But no videos of anyone surrounding a man, a man walks into a crowd and than says he was surrounded. Ok. None of the boys in the video did anything disrespectful. |

Deliberately refusing to move when someone walks towards you in a crowd = blocking. Somehow the other boys let him pass. |
You can spin it whichever way you want, but the facts clearly show the boys were being disrespectful and intimidating to an elder man. The parents, chaperones and school have done a piss-poor job at instilling any sort of values in these boys. If they can't do something as basic as showing respect to elders, they deserve all the score they get. A simple solution would have been for them to disperse. |
"made no attemps to get around him" - so you agree he was blocking Phillips's path. |
People like you are exactly what is wrong with this country. A basic rule of good manners is to be respectful to elders. These boys clearly demonstrated that they failed these basic social norms. Shame on them, their parents, and their school. |
Do they also consume rightwing media and believe and spread rightwing lies, while Republican billionaires screw them? |
No, the crazy old coot has a chip on his shoulder and wanted that boy to push or lash out at him. When the kid just stood there, thinking omg why did this man single me out of the huge crowd for his chanting and drum beating tantrum, Phillips made himself out to be a victim. “In an interview Saturday, Phillips, 64, said he felt threatened by the teens and that they suddenly swarmed around him as he and other activists were wrapping up the march and preparing to leave.” Video shows he walked up to the kids. Nobody swarmed him. Video is clear. “It was getting ugly, and I was thinking: ‘I’ve got to find myself an exit out of this situation and finish my song at the Lincoln Memorial,’?” Phillips recalled. “I started going that way, and that guy in the hat stood in my way and we were at an impasse. He just blocked my way and wouldn’t allow me to retreat.” Uh you walked INTO the crowd of MAGA kids. If you wanted to retreat why walk into the “ugly” crowd? https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.washingtonpost.com/amphtml/local/social-issues/it-was-getting-ugly-native-american-drummer-on-the-maga-hat-wearing-teens-who-surrounded-him/2019/01/19/41678d84-1c1b-11e9-8813-cb9dec761e73_story.html |
You're either blind, a liar, or a bored troll. The video speaks for itself - we can all see the kid(s) mocking him as he's trying to end properly end the Native American ceremony. |

Native American claims racial harassment by EMU students dressed as indians This is the second time this man has been in an “ugly situation.” He walked by a home where he saw Eastern Michigan University students dressed as Native Americans. "They had little feathers on, I was just going to walk by," Phillips said. "A group of them said 'Come on over, come here.'" He says he walked over to the fence and saw roughly 30 to 40 students involved in a theme party. "They had their face painted," Phillips said. "I said what the heck is going on here. 'Oh we are honoring you.' I said no you are not honoring me." He claims this group referred to themselves as the Hurons, the former mascot at EMU at one time. "The mascot issue at the university was changed 20 years ago," Phillips said. "That I'm dealing with it 20 years later ... There's a lot of hate behind that." Chip/shoulder He’s out for confrontation. |
