How will Wootton or RM be affected by new high school in Crown Farm?

Forgot about NW... it projects to be 334 overcapacity in 2034. Moving a NW ES to QO would seem like the most likely outcome. Fields Road is right next to Crown so it could shift out of QO to open up space there.

Since NW just shifted kids to SVHS, are they wouldn’t be over capacity anymore though right?

Wrong. NWHW is still projected to be over capacity, and NWHS is one of the high schools whose over-capacity problems Crown is intended to fix.

Falls Grove is way closer to Crown than Fallsmead or Lakewood. This is all conjecture. The county still has to build Crown HS. Develpers wanted to sell those properties they are still trying to get the word out that Crown will be pulling from Wootton...

eh.. Horizon Hill used to be zoned for Wootton, walking distance, and they got rezoned to RM. It has happened and can happen again.

Lots of things have changed in 32 years, including the priority MCPS places on not putting kids in a potential walk zone on buses.

Your head is in the sand. MCPS puts more of priority on diversity than walking.

Nope. Read the superintendent's recommendation for the upcounty boundary study.

Again, Fallsmead's boundaries include walkers to Wootton but also walkers to Crown because there is a section of Fallsmead from the Rio apartments. So some walkers are going to become bus riders unless the whole boundaries of all surrounding cluster schools get re-organized. Otherwise you have kids who will ride a bus past Crown on their way to Wootton or vice versa...

They can just rezone the Fallsmead students who live across the street from Crown to Crown, and still keep the rest of Fallsmead at Wootton.

Fallsmead is under capacity already. If they get rid of a large part, they will be way too under and that won't happen

No, they could keep all the current Fallsmead students at Fallsmead, but just change the high school from Wootton to Crown for the ones who live across the street from Crown. That's essentially what MCPS did in a couple instances in the upcounty study, with the "islands" from Matsunaga and Clopper Mill being reassigned from NWHS to SVHS, but no reassignment for the rest of those schools' students.

two words... split articulation.

This isn't an elementary school boundary study, it's a HS boundary study. How crowded Fallsmead is has no impact on Crown HS.

There's a big stretch of land west of Falls Road that goes to Churchill. I've always thought that many of those neighborhoods would be at least as close to Wootton (would be bussed, either way). If Wootton is under capacity, why not move those kids to Wootton and then shift Churchill's boundaries on the other side (north and east of Churchill) to take pressure off of RM and WJ?

This would involve moving Wayside to Frost. Is Frost under capacity?

Most of them are walkers (less than one mile). So you think they should ride on bus crossing I-270 ? to RM or WJ with 4 times longer in distance ?

Taking off pressure from RM ? Relocate IB to Churchill !

I think we're talking about different neighborhoods. There's a neighborhood within walking distance of Churchill that feeds to RM (just north of Montrose). I know kids there who used a Cosa to go to Churchill and walk home on nice days (fairly long walk, but not what you're talking about). Likewise, a huge number of Churchill kids take the 10 minute Ride On ride to Montgomery Mall right after school (just for fun) and in the process, go by neighborhoods that are I think zoned for WJ (at least, they're not Churchill).

Okay, you are talking about Ritchie Park ES. Yes it feeds to RM but they should feed to Churchill if RM is over capacity.
