How will Wootton or RM be affected by new high school in Crown Farm?

Will Wootton completely change? Looking to move to Dufief neighborhood or Fallsgrove(Ritchie Park ES) but don't want to be districted for this new high school. Is there a good chance these neighborhoods/schools will get moved? Does anyone know any updates about the new districts?

1. Why are you so opposed to being districted to the new HS? No one is even sure of the exact boundaries yet, so I have no idea why you'd be against it.

2. The new HS is going to be in the Gaithersburg HS area, so the Dufief/Wootton/RM area will likely not be impacted. However, no one knows for sure yet.

Yes but Dufief is pretty close to Crown Farm. Rio Center is in Wootton district so there is a large chance that wootton will be impacted, though I'm not sure it will be Dufief who is impacted.

I live in Gaithersburg, so I'm familiar with the geography of the area. Dufief is not close enough to Crown to likely be impacted. Only part of Rio is in the Wootton district and it's not contiguous with the rest of the Wootton district, so I still think it's probable Wootton district proper (aka not the Rio part) won't be impacted.

Bottom line is that no one know yet what the exact impact will be.

However, the Crown Farm sits in the Gaithersburg cluster, right near the Wootton, QO and RM boundaries. It is reasonable to speculate that all of them will be impacted in some way.

The impact could be a traditional boundary change, a consortium (think of when Blake opened) or perhaps some type of special program/magnet school.

My larger question is why OP has decided he/she doesn't want to be districted to the new school, when no one knows what the district for the school will even be.

No one knows. Current BOE hasn't said. It's at least 10 years away. Buy based on your comfort zone.

The district for the school will be MCPS.

But yes, nobody knows who will be zoned for Crown.

RMs addition was cancelled because kids were going to be moved to Crown or otherwise moved due to Crown. Can imagine how overcrowded it will be in 10 years though!

Y’all are dumb. I wouldn’t want my kids to be in the new high school over wootton. The new high school is meant to be built to relieve gaithersburg if it’s overcrowding, meaning some portion of that will be going to the high school. Additionally, a part of QO will most likely go as well since it is overcrowded, and the area that is near crown is the bad part of QO(Fields Road ES) and the FARMS population of the school goes there. If that and part of Gaithersburg goes there that nice high school would be something like Northwest or Magruder. Either Dufief, Stone Mill, or another high achieving school will most likely end up there as well to balance FARMS rates with QO, Wootton, and RM.

You don't know anything about the new high school at Crown (because nobody does) or about the changes to Wootton (because nobody does), but you know you don't want your kids to go to the new high school at Crown over Wootton. How about that.
