How will Wootton or RM be affected by new high school in Crown Farm?

Everything depends on the name of the school. If its a W name, it will be a good school. If there is no W, it will not be. Names matter !

Everybody knows that Gaithersburg high school has high incidents of violence, gang activity and more. I know it’s sucks to break down things along socioeconomic lines but you cannot lift up the low achieving kids from this cluster by grouping them with the high achieving wootton kids. Wootton is highly desirable not because it is a nice new school like Gaithersburg or Poolesville or because the kids are privileged and coddled/scaffolded like Churchill or Whitman. It’s because there is a confluence of high achieving Asians and south East Indian families who place an emphasis on academics and achievements and you cannot replicate the parental involvement and values of our school elsewhere.

We all know that’s not true. It’s not the name it’s what the name grew to mean. Wootton is wootton because the student body is excellent. Kids from all races and backgrounds are compelled to excel. Read that again.

After reading these comments from Wootton parents it makes me want to move out of the cluster. You are all completely neurotic.

Compelled by whom? Or what? That sounds like a problem.

Raw, unbridled truth. Education is not a zero-sum game, and "fixing" this system would be a net loss.

How many kids can new Crown HS take? I have many asian friends with kids attending stonefield ES now, and they will be really pissed if they will zone to new Crown HS. To them, wotton HS is the main reason that they bought the home at the firat place.

Wootton is at 1883/2120 utilization.

Let's say hypothetically you take Stone Mill and Washingtonian area out of Wootton. Now Wootton is around 1300/2120 utilization. I don't think you're going to be able to backfill and wind up with lower transportation costs and shortened bus rides.

You never know. They may bus in other ES from Gaithersburg or Rockville to Wootton. It all depends on the next BOE and superintendent.

You never know, but you can always ask yourself if you're suggesting something wildly unprecedented where nobody stands to gain.

They are not going to build Crown High School only to start bussing everyone past each other to far away schools. No BOE or superintendent is going to spend hundreds of millions of dollars turning the boundary map into a Jackson Pollock painting.

Laytonsville ES says hold my beer, lol...the one ES in the county whose kids get bused in all directions to different high schools.

Laytonsville is not located near any high school. There are five schools each 6-8 miles away. It's split articulated to two of them, Gaithersburg and Damascus.

They’ll get over it. Boundaries need to be adjust in the interest of the school system.

Why would it be in the best interest of the school system to bus all KF kids to Gaithersburg HS when the new Crown HS is closer?

Because half already go there and it's literally a drive right up 355. It's quicker to Gaithersburg than RM. Should have been done years ago.

Large parts of KF are far closer to 270 than 355.
which large parts of KF are closer to 270 than 355? Anyways, if KF ends up at Crown, they don’t need to take 270 to get there.

Everything west of Gaither, certainly. Probably everything west of Reserve Champion.

It's funny how Wheaton isn't a W name once one goes down this silly rabbit hole!

Now Churchill is also included in the boundary study and it looks like it needs to move an ES to Wootton to reduce overcrowding. Then Wootton will also be overcrowded and may need to move an ES to another high school.
