I repeatedly asked what was the reason for denial of appeal with wisc and got no straight answer. Just been told appeal decision is final
Calling again on Monday Going to ask if appeal has to be looked into who else should be contacted |
We don't know that racial profiling is an issue here. IF as the OP was told, "many communities prepare for the test", and her child belongs to that community, then certainly her race is being considered in deciding whether the test results are legit or not. It really does seem like there is a major handicap trying to go into AAP from private school, and possibly an additional one if you're Asian. If they don't count test scores and GBRS, and they couldn't possibly tell whether a child did their samples at home/school (and the ones done at home have no value), then what are they basing their decisions on? |
There are many threads saying that private school is no handicap. They aren't as long as this thread, though. Maybe length of thread is more persuasive to you? |
| If GBRS from a private school is of no value, then it stands to reason that children going from private school are at a disadvantage, because their teacher's input is of no value, and has no standing in backing up what the test scores say. |
There are plenty of threads saying that there is no disadvantage coming from private schools. This thread is not the only thread on this forum. |
Why is suggesting racial profiling trolling? The OP said the the FCPS person mentioned many "communities" prepping. While that could mean people in a certain geographic region, it could also mean ethnic/cultural background. Just because you don't agree with someone's opinion doesn't make that person a troll. It is especially interesting that the GBRS and the WISC seemed to have no impact, despite being high. |
Go up the chain. The AAP office reports to Instructional Services. https://www.fcps.edu/department/instructional-service-department |

OP - please tell us your DC's race so we could put a stop to this 'racial profiling' nonsense.
BTW, is your DC older? |
She said 2nd grader, didn't she? |
"Community" could easily mean private school students and parents or particularly private schools that end at second grade. We also don't know the actual words used by the FCPS employee on the phone. OP could have been paraphrasing from what she recalled of the communication. |
| All I know is that in all the years I've seem people talk about AAP, I've never heard of a child with these scores getting rejected. And it makes no sense that a committee would think work examples wouldn't be prepped, but that testing would. If there is no proof of a parent doing anything illegal, I also do not understand how they can make that claim either. |
Community could also mean geographical rather than racial. OP said their home school is Floris ES, which is certainly a "TJ mania" part of FCPS. |
| Send this to The Washington Post. Jay Matthews doesn't do his own investigating, I don't think, but his staff does. Though, how about first - - one last try - - contact the Superintendent. |
| Phone conversations are useless. You need explanations in writing, and signed by someone. |
The point is communities could mean multiple things. It could mean geographic regions, race, private school parents....It's not trolling to think it could be race/ethnicity, because it could be. It is one possibility. The use of the word troll when someone says something you don't agree with is silly. |
