I am not saying this is right but why should the company go bankrupt and tens of thousands of people loose their jobs over this one incident.
I am pretty sure the CEO of the airline did not direct the actions of these employees.

Should there be punishment...absolutely. Should people vote with their feet and dollars if they don't like it..absolutely
Should the company go out of business and put employees on the street..absolutely not.

The CEO's response is obnoxious and tone deaf.

Are any of the pro united people posting in this thread somehow connected with united?

Read somewhere that some folks (teenage group) deplaned after the incident because it was so inappropriate. And indeed it is. It's hard to understand what United was thinking. But clearly it is way out of hand that they thought this was the optimal way to handle the situation.

I don't understand why the passenger thought he was so important the IDB rules didn't apply to him. I know he claimed to be a doctor, but...I just don't understand it. Airlines don't deny boarding to people based on the important of their jobs. Is there something else going on here?

I watched this once and was horrified. I hope he sues United for a lot and the goons who dragged him off and bloodied him should be arrested.

What have we become when a major airline finds such behavior acceptable!

Yes, there was apparently a group of teenage students and their teacher took them off the plane.

I don't care if he were a welfare cheat. This shouldn't happen to anybody.

Right. But why didn't he just get off the plane? I fly 100K+ miles a year and I just don't understand this situation. That's where everything went wrong, so I'm not sure why everyone's harping on United.

(And for the record, I DESPISE United and haven't flown them in 20 years. But I don't understand the uproar.)

Here's the WaPo article. Provides a good explanation of what happenned. I'm honestly disgusted and kind of obsessed with this. I used to travel for work weekly and almost always on United. This whole thing is repulsive.

You seriously don't understand the uproar? Are you autistic?

because he didn't want to. We are not slaves that have to obey our masters. This modern society is trying to force us into that role. I personally was thrilled to see somebody standing up to our evil overlords who make billions a year just so they can get $2000 more.

No. I'm a frequent traveler who would have gotten off the damn plane when first asked, then taken it up with the airline and walked about with my $1600+. It's happened before and it'll happen again.

I do think the police went overboard, but again, I can't figure out why no one's putting even a little blame on the passenger who thought he was above the IDB rules. And I'm still waiting for someone to explain that.
