EXACTLY!!

Except the whole point of this forum is that you can ask strange or hard questions. You might get shifty advice but Point is, she's not asking you this in person and jabbering your ear off. You chose this thread. What's your point?

That OP is full of shit. That when a rider sees someone so solution-resistant we flee.

That there's one in every barn, briefly, until that person publicly demonstrates that you can't talk your way into competence (only work improves your riding) and then leaves for the next unfortunate barn.

We can see them a mile away and they're the last person to whom I'd ever entrust a horse.

For the non-horse people here please remember - when you invite someone to ride you are putting a living animal in her hands. They are large but fragile and they remember ignorant riding. The horse comes first. 100% of the time.

+1 The "I rode a horse last when I was 12" adult rider.

Before I would ever let a child fox hunt I would want an answer to at least one of the following questions (depending upon child)
-what pony club rating does child have ?
-eventing comfortably at what level?
-hunter/jumper ? Schooling over what height jumps and courses?
-ever participated in a hunter pace?
-riding a suitable hunt horse? Is the child familiar with this horse?

Signed,
Parent who lets my DC hunt occasionally under optimal conditions.

Interesting that after last 7-8 responses we get "crickets" from OP.

Why do you think that applies to OP though, she sounded more horsey to me.

Because she doesn't sound horsey to those of us who know better. See some of the comments from PPs about her judgement re taking kids fox hunting.

Did the OP ever say that her kids were actually participating in full-on fox hunting? Maybe I missed it, but I think some of you are putting words into her mouth.

And I don't care how much "the horse always comes first" -- that is fine and understandable. There are less rude ways to go about it than leaving someone stranded in a barn for hours.

Op never confirmed fox hunting. What about her story is making people think that's the sport and not some more generic (and safer) form of riding?

In her late - breaking sob story the family left the barn for several hours. This would happen with a hunt meet (or a horse show- equally preposterous for an occasional guest) not if they were just riding casually.

She also hinted at exclusivity and snob appeal and a small community; not the case for a casual ride.

Yes, in fact OP did say this "So what I have resolved as a result of this thread is that we will ensure this hobby doesn't have the time / support from us as a family to be anything more than an occasional fun thing."

page 16, 8:57

That is not how fox hunting with children is done and very dangerous. PP's are objecting to this. If OP had true bona fides she would know that.
For the record none of us left OP at the barn or endorsed this. Her FIL/MIL were not even there, a fact OP withheld until later in this thread. It was some random sibling of the DH. They were probably a bunch of shitty teenagers/twenty somethings but not her actual FIL/MIL. OP is a big cry baby looking for attention.

Actually she did in several posts late in this thread. Go back and reread.

Not sure what you mean by "full-on fox hunting." Sort of like being a little bit pregnant.
Either you belong out there or you don't. Children without the requisite skills and time in the saddle, do not.

She's probably on the COTH bulletin board as we speak, holding forth about Marilyn Little's bit choices while talking about her show record before scores were on the Internet.

HAHA Love it! Not sure she is involved enough to even read COTH

Neither are some of the people on the forums. The dressage forum is a reliable pick me up if DCUM is not delivering enough crazy on any given day.
