The underlying issue at hand is the racism that comes to the front by people who are accustomed to their own kind having a hierarchy. i.e.: Chinese think they are superior to Korean; Korean to Vietnamese, etc. Such hierarchy does not carry here; yet the smugness apparently does.

Yes, those hierarchies do not carry here. That's because we in the US have other racist hierarchies.

Jeff Steele- Can you please lock my thread? I have a much better understanding of the concept of "tiger" parenting thanks to the thoughtful postings. I also appreciate the well-articulated positions of people who have weighed in about the ‘merits’ of tiger parenting including those who agree/disagree (including HGC mom).
The reason that I would like this thread locked though is that I am very disheartened by the number of overt racist postings and I don’t want my thread to be a vehicle for people to spread racism. There is a fine line between trying to understand different cultural perspectives in a respectful way (like from a social science perspective) and making generalizations to racism. Some of the comments have clearly crossed the line. I’ve actually had trouble sleeping thinking about some of the ignorant things that have been written and whether some of the things that I wrote may have unintentionally added any fuel to the fire.
