We're not in Iran. We're in Iraq. I assume that's a typo. A discharged vet wouldn't necessarily have access to high grade explosives but might know how to build an IED. They have training on how they're made. The Saudi guy who was tackled and questioned at the hospital has been cleared by the FBI. He was just the wrong color person in the wrong place at the wrong time. Breathing while Arab, so to speak. |
WTF with the wild speculations? Yesterday Jeff cut off the a&$holes making asinine comments about Muslims--and rightly so. However, it would be nice if the same sensitivity was shown to our veterans, other religious groups and those on the right. At this time we have no idea of the identity or morivation of the perpetrator of this dreadful act. Can the sniping and bigotry on this forum not abate even in the midst if tragedy? |
No, no ... Don't you know you're on DCUM? That's not going to happen here. Sadly. |
+1 |
I see pages and pages of mentions of Saudis in this thread. I think the treatment given to the other groups is equal to the treatment of saudis here. What Jeff cut off is definitely different from the commentary shown here. So let's not go overboard seeking a double standard. |
The speculation re the Saudi was based upon news reports--not ails speculation that are military vets are unstable. |
Pp here. You cannot equate discussions based upon news reporting with wild speculation based upon bigotry and bias. |
How UTTERLY DISGUSTING AND INHUMANE! Westboro Baptist "Church" twitters, "thank god for the Boston bombs" - say they are going to picket the funerals of the Boston bombings.
Seriously, what is wrong with these people? |
Just to be clear, I did not cut off discussion. I blocked posters, which may have had the same effect. One of the posters in question did not merely cite a media report, but elaborated that he is angered by the mere existence of a mosque in DC and considers the minaret to be giving him the middle finger. I have no patience for such folks. That said, I have cautioned in a previous post against jumping to conclusions regarding right wingers. That suggestion goes double where our veterans are concerned. Let's let the facts play out before we decide who to blame. |
Sorry for my part in that speculation. |
Sure. In synagogues you'll find people plotting the death and destruction of any and all things Palestinian. Fair? |
In the photo of the man who's lower limbs were blown off, you see another man beside him, wearing a cowboy hat and holding the man's artery exposed to limit blood loss. He's literally holding the injured man's artery in his thumb and forefinger. The man's name is Carlos Arredondo, and he has an amazing story:
He's an immigrant from Costa Rica. His son was killed in Iraq. In distress, Carlos set himself on fire. He survived, only to be beaten by a right wing during an anti-war protest in DC. In 2011, his other son committed suicide. And now, an incredible hero, helping save this man's life (the man in the photo with two severed legs is believed to survive) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlos_Arredondo http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/04/16/17773869-the-man-in-the-hat-at-boston-marathon-finish-line-carlos-arredondo-didnt-set-out-to-be-hero?lite |
I was wondering what was up when they listed the 20 y/o Saudi national as "acting suspicious" because he was "running from the scene."
My thinking was, "Of course he'd be running from the scene." Now if he were laughing maniacally, going "Allah-u-akbar", giving a terrorist fist bump to his wife, or whatever else terrorists do after a successful attack, we might be onto something. But running from a bomb blast? |
Right wing of a what? An eagle? a Goose? An emu perhaps? (lol, sorry, I just couldn't help myself) That IS an amazing story though. |
