How to handle a kid who does not want a Bar Mitzvah

Anonymous
OP here back to say my kid recently had his Bar Mitzvah and we are all so glad he went through with it. The Temple worked with us and did scale back what he had to do, but he still learned his Torah portion. Especially with everything going on in Israel, I am so glad he went through with it.

I'm glad you found what worked! It's mitzvah year for us too and the last couple of weeks have been lovely to have community to celebrate with while we continue to process everything going on.

Mazel tov! So glad everyone was satisfied with how everything turned out. Fwiw, I have severe learning difficulties and had to be given a different portion of the Torah and have my bat mitzvah on a Sunday during an obscure holiday to get a much shorter Torah portion.
