Below the top n schools, you're not going to get a wow factor for random resume submissions, that's true. By that metric, UR might not have an advantage over Elon. But school caliber matters for OCR. As I wrote above, UR does a little worse than UVA when it comes to prestigious firms recruiting in campus, but only a little worse. It seems to do better than W&M. OCR matters for your first job, which matters for your second job, and so on. How does Elon do? What prestigious firms recruit there? I doubt too many.

What are some other goals of education on which Elon ranks better than UR?

I used to work in Richmond alongside several graduates of both schools. They were all capable and smart and nice. VCU kids tend to be a little scrappier and self-reliant, UR kids a little more sheltered and coddled. But everyone has their place.

The thread started with an unfair comparison (UR, medium smart rich kid school vs Elon, less-smart rich kid school). It didn't even make sense at that point, because no one would seriously entertain both unless they were applying to Elon as a deep safety. Now it's UR vs VCU mud slinging and the comparison makes even less sense.
