No way are the comparable and Elon doesn’t have top academics.

Oh yeah? What suggests they are so different?

The students, the faulty, the reputations, the resources.

Evidence?

The smartest kids at Elon would be the dumbest kids at Richmond, to be crude about it.

What percent submitted? Testing isn't really a comparison anymore.

My son and I visited Elon, but not U. of Richmond. That seemed to have a different vibe to me and I didn't encourage my son to apply there. I've known of a couple of kids who have gone to U of R and did not have a good experience. OTOH, I knew of a number of kids who went to Elon and loved it. It all comes down to fit. I think if you check out Niche and other sources, you'll see that they have a different vibe from each other and attract different types of students.

My son got some decent merit from Elon and a competitive fellowship. He enjoyed the sample class he got to participate in, found the other prospective students very friendly, and liked the FYE and other resources that Elon offers. Good luck, OP!

Just look at the CDS. I believe both schools have about half submitting.

I don’t know what to tell you. Richmond has become a relatively elite LAC. Very hard to get in. It has a huge endowment and offers students a lot.

Elon does not attract top students.

These statements seem anecdotal.

I’m literally pointing you to data. But yes, anecdotally, I don’t know of any kids in the AP track at my kid’s school who considered Elon. But many considered UR. It’s just obvious. It’s like saying USC Columbia is the same as UNC Chapel Hill

Actually, UNC and USC are both R1 state flagships.

But not all state flagships are created equal just as not all small private colleges in the south are created equal.

UNC and USC are not that different. Elon is a national university, which is different than UR, a LAC.

Different from. Whatever. Send your kid to Elon. I don’t care

Why are people so nasty about Elon?

It's bizarre. Though the snobbery, or lack thereof, is exactly why places like Elon have become so popular.

Sounds like Elon is a better fit, OP!

We visited both and I think they are very similar despite this thread. Richmond location is, IMO, much better and near a real city, Elon is bigger so maybe that offers benefits.

Elon is much less selective and most students at Elon could not get into Richmond. This may not matter to you but it’s a big difference between the schools.
