I am the original compassion poster from page one of this thread, also known as bona fides because I dared to post about my social justice work to which I’ve dedicated nearly all my adult life.

I’m glad to know there are some others here who have a capacity for empathy and compassion for those driven to violence by the many poisons in our society - among them people with minds so closed they cannot see any humanity in people who think differently than them.

I also recommend the film Mass, which I recently viewed. But I recognize that some people are simply incapable of grasping certain concepts in life until/unless life deals them a tragedy beyond their current comprehension - and even then some people get mired in hate and stay there forever.

It is true about lowering the bar for “mass shootings” in order to artificially inflate the numbers.

This deception is meant to create the perception of a crisis, and thereby generate political support for gun control. It is not done to save lives.

I think the issue for me is that really shouldn't be your first reaction. Eventually yes, of course, we all need to dig deep and figure out what could possibly bring an 18 year old to such hate, and where is society breaking down. But that's for later. PAGE ONE of a thread detailing a mass shooting where 10 black people are killed should be focused on those 10 black people killed and not showing compassion for the shooter. All in due time. But give them the few hours or come on days/weeks after their death where the focus is solely on them? I don't think that's too much to ask.

The standard for defining a mass shooting is shared by FBI, media etc. It is when four or more people are injured or killed in a shooting. There have been over 200 mass shootings across America since January 1, 2022. That is a FACT.
