Masking off-ramp coming soon?

Masks do work. Of course we need them.

As soon as 90% of everyone is vaccinated, and the kids are vaccinated, most of the masks can come off. Until then, nope.

So, never then? Because the chances of 90% of the US population getting vaccinated are slim and none.

Just check out their Twitter account and their burner account Arl_Star. Many of the conversations posted on DCUM will get referenced by those social media accounts.

Some things these social media accounts have posted just since the start of school:
* They've compared wearing masks to a "holy war"
* They've praised New Zealand for doing a military-style lockdown of the entire country over 1 case
* They've criticized a leading Professor from Harvard, Joseph Allen, for saying universities that are 99% vaccinated shouldn't have to mask anymore and shouldn't be doing strict mitigation methods over 15 cases (like a leading university did).
* They're now similarly beating the drum about Wakefield having 20+ cases, in a student population that is probably over 90% vaccinated

As you see in the lack of logic on this site, they are not accepting COVID will be endemic. They want our kids to be lonely warriors in their religious mission, while kids throughout the US and the world return to normal.

This organization is not led by a scientist, but by a woman who owns a stationery company. They have adopted COVID as a religion. When you state that kids need to return to normal, it's essentially like you're arguing with a fervent religious person that their religion is not real.

LOL, somebody's got a case of the Monday's. Hope your day and life improves.

Be quiet, you little child. The adults are talking.

Oops, I'm sorry, my mistake. I missed that's what you're doing. Pretty please, give us more of your adult talk and wisdom, with a cherry on top.

Oh, brother. Whatever you're taking for your paranoia isn't strong enough. Call your shrink asap. You need a new dose!

This poster is just stating what Smart Restart's Twitter accounts have been stating this school year. It does seem really similar to the posts here about 0 cases before masks are removed (which would mean masks are never removed).

This poster is also talking about kids being transformed into "lonely warriors," seemingly unaware that just last month was peak pediatric hospitalization for kids, far above what it was last winter. All is improving, so that is good and hopefully we can put masking behind us very soon. But to cast all this is as some kind of religious war is pretty silly, doing disservice to both religion and public health. The poster's perceived angst is asymmetric for a discussion about when masking will be deemphasized. It is reflective of the very tendency that the poster attempts to illuminate.

And what percentage was that last month? It's still extremely low. I know I'll get the "but more than zero admissions" is too much crowd, but that just isn't realistic.

DP. If you think life with Covid is so much better in other parts of the US then please just move there. We could do with a little less crazy around here and we'll all be better off without you.

According to the HHS hub, there were 9 kids hospitalized in the entire State of Virginia yesterday with COVID. According to the US census website, there are 179,246 kids under 18 in VA. So the percentage is 0.005%.

As studies have shown, children's hospitalizations are likely overcounted by 40-70% too because of the from/with distinction. Thus, it's likely that only 3 to 5 kids are actually hospitalized right now "from" COVID.

The point isn't about the rate. The point is the accusation that the earlier poster had some kind of religious fervor that lacked basis. Poster should ease up on the rhetoric. Same could be said of many posters here from different points of view. Many are guilty of the same sin.

Yes, I do. And I am saying what my friends and I all think. We're fed up with crazies like you who won't wear masks, complain constantly about masks, and generally are a drain on us all. If you think life is so much better elsewhere then go there. We'll even pay for you to move. Cuz you add nothing of value to any of us and actually drag the rest of us down.

NP. Sorry, the tide is shifting and your little masked DC area bubble is popping. No one is going to be masking come springtime. Get ready to clutch your pearls over all the people who will be vacationing over the holidays. If you don’t like it, you can move. Keep grasping at straws though.

I said come springtime. I’m in N Arlington and the people I know who are still masking are doing so b/c their kids are unvaccinated. People here are starting to want test to stay like other jurisdictions instead of mandatory isolation days. They’re signing their kids up for indoor winter sports. This is not the COVID of last winter and things will be even more different once the weather warms.

Also, I see maybe 75% of people masking indoors still. Plenty of unmasked adults at Harris Teeter and whatnot. Lots of indoor dining going on.
