This poster is also talking about kids being transformed into "lonely warriors," seemingly unaware that just last month was peak pediatric hospitalization for kids, far above what it was last winter. All is improving, so that is good and hopefully we can put masking behind us very soon. But to cast all this is as some kind of religious war is pretty silly, doing disservice to both religion and public health. The poster's perceived angst is asymmetric for a discussion about when masking will be deemphasized. It is reflective of the very tendency that the poster attempts to illuminate.
And what percentage was that last month? It's still extremely low. I know I'll get the "but more than zero admissions" is too much crowd, but that just isn't realistic.
According to the HHS hub, there were 9 kids hospitalized in the entire State of Virginia yesterday with COVID. According to the US census website, there are 179,246 kids under 18 in VA. So the percentage is 0.005%. As studies have shown, children's hospitalizations are likely overcounted by 40-70% too because of the from/with distinction. Thus, it's likely that only 3 to 5 kids are actually hospitalized right now "from" COVID. https://med.stanford.edu/news/all-news/2021/05/covid-19-hospitalizations-among-kids-likely-overcounted.html
