Masking off-ramp coming soon?

I do think mask mandates will end relatively soon but it has way more to do with vaccines being available to younger kids than it does Youngkin.

Here is the thing. If a child is vaccinated and his teacher is vaccinated, wearing a mask really does not affect how at-risk he is in his classroom even if some kids aren’t vaccinated. Since he is vaxxed, it is highly unlikely he will get it - and incredibly unlikely he’ll get really sick from it. If families feel they need an additional layer of protection they can have their kid wear a mask.

I am totally supportive of removing mask mandates for vaccinated kids now. Unvaccinated kids can continue to wear masks.

You know what is going to be weird. When all these parents who won’t vax their kids and want masks off get quarantined for 10 days at a time while the vaxxed kids stay in school. Oh the complaining that will ensue.

Nobody is voluntarily submitting to receive any experimental inoculation. And my kids will continue to attend school unmasked when the mandate is lifted by the new governor. If you want I can give you a pot for your tears.

That a mask means freedom to you is strange. I guess doctors nurses and dentists are not free because of the hospital policy? I think you are incapable of any suffering or short term pain. Sadly, you are the one who isn’t free because you are at the mercy of your impulses and you are not able to for a very short term give up a small thing (being unmasked) for the greater good. True freedom requires one to be able to give things up short term. It requires some discipline that you are not able to show in order to reap it’s rewards. If you can only think about your personal freedom, not the lives of others, it says a lot about your character.

NP. The question is the definition of "temporary." People do in good faith differ on when it is appropriate to make masking optional in schools, especially locally, where transmission is relatively low and vaccination rates are high.

How will I be putting your kids at risk? Aren't they vaccinated? If they are immuno-compromised, then they are free to continue to wear high quality masks for as many months or years as preferred. (I teach math, so I understand risk analysis.)

+100 I feel like I have done my civic duty. Once the younger kids have had a chance to be vaccinated, then I feel like I should not be required to mask anymore.
