The White Lotus season 2

It sounds like Connie Britton thinks she's coming back. So that might be it.

I wouldn't be surprised since Daphne was such an amazing character. I'd watch a show just of her traipsing around a strip mall.

Daphne was a really compelling character, I agree. Although part of what made her compelling but not knowing for sure what her game was/what the deal was with the marriage, and I feel like we got somewhat of a reveal at the end. So I'm not sure I would find another season of them as interesting

I don't know why everyone found her so compelling. She basically just bleated her "I'm not a victim. Do you what you need to do" mantra over and over again. She seemed pretty one-note to me.

Either you weren’t paying attention, or it was too subtle for you. Her acting in the scene with Ethan on the beach was amazing. The changes in expression on her face.

Agree. That short little clip was outstanding.

Golden Globe noms out, only JC, Aubrey Plaza, and F Murray Abraham recognized. Surprised Sabrina Impacciatore wasn't nom'd. Not surprised Fahy wasn't nom'd, only because it was really just one standout scene in the finale.

Hmmm. That would be interesting if the storyline is eastern spirituality. It would be funny if Portia was her assistant.

No late-30s freckled blonde who cares about their skin is doing that.

Yup. Especially with so many umbrellas to be had and lovely beach assistants who could help with them.

I've been looking at Daphne's sun-damaged chest the whole season. It's pretty bad for late 30's. I hope it's makeup for the show, because the actress is only 32! So maybe being a freckled blonde and laying out in the sun is realistic.

Imagine the delusion of feeling superior to Meghann Fahy

I don't get it. She's nice looking, but not drop-dead. I live in NYC and see women just as pretty if not prettier every day. People see blonde hair (even dyed) and lose their damn minds.

NP. Kind of a digression but I was thinking about this thread when she led Ethan to the island - she's pretty and blonde so there were SO MANY POSTERS who couldn't imagine her being anything but wonderful - she's the happiest character (??), she comes from rich parents (?!?), she has the power in her marriage (????), she is obviously too traditional a wife and mother to cheat; based on this pretzel logic the trainer thing was CLEARLY a metaphor for loving on your kids (??????????). All based on nothing but she was blonde, pretty, and smiley. It's like the Tina Fey bit works on women too, just instead of wanting to f*ck these women they want to install a pedestal and hoist them up.

Your post proves that you barely understood anything people were saying about her and that you want to see the world in really binary terms.

I do not see how you come out of this final episode not seeing that she has the power in the marriage though. That scene with Cam and the toothbrush said it all. She called, and she would not stop until he came. He has to do what she says. And she does what she wants. Name one single time in the entire series where she did something FOR him.

LOL people literally invented that she had rich parents and investment properties out of thin air and you think that means I think in binary terms? She begs him to talk to the kids and eventually he says hi so she's running the show. Sure, Jan. A hit dog will holler.

I think that there was ONE poster spinning elaborate fantasies about the investor parents and a lot of others talking about her complexities and the fact that all you took from all that conversation was this over simplified summation makes me think you are either intentionally misrepresenting the conversation or you are not a deep thinker

I think she’s an other woman (or has been one in her past) and hates he won’t leave the wife. The wife is her nemesis. She can only see the wife as bad from this vantage point.

I thought most people see Daphne as a washed up phony sorority girl? Classic smug elitist late 30s passive aggressive mean girl cool mom. Did a lot of cocaine in college, was very promiscuous, sunk her claws into a rich high status guy and popped out babies.

That's certainly how Harper saw her. And how I saw her. But she is pretty too. So there's that.

That’s how they want to see her. They need her in that box.

I'm surprised on Fahy - I thought she had way more outstanding scenes than just that. The whole casual calling Cam from the palazzo and then explaining she and Cam both play games. Her slight freakout the next morning when she tells Harper she was really high and tries to minimize what she said. And she had a similar reaction when Harper told her she thought something happened with Ethan and Cam - before she turned as hard as nails. She was masterful in portraying a woman who is constantly working on keeping her mask from slipping, and just when it does, catching herself and putting it right back on.

+1 her scenes stuck out the most to me this season

So are we supposed to think Greg was talking to Quentin on the phone earlier at the hotel those times and telling him he loved him? So he's also gay? Even though Quentin described him as straight?

It seems like Greg and Quentin maybe had the mutual plan of show Tanya a good time for a last time and then kill her. I guess that was the only reason for fooling around with the Mafia drug supplier. Still not clear why they videotaped it, then, if the whole plot was just to kill her. Seems like the taping (showing the sex and tape were planned out) could be evidence against them in a murder investigation.

Anyway -- after Tanya died, her s money would go to Greg, and he would split it with Quentin and his crew. Or he would live with Quentin happily ever after and share the money, if they were a couple. Quentin would reward his "nephew" for distracting and/or killing Portia.

Look at the ruthless societies most of the men this season were a part of - Quentin and his gay mafia; Greg and whatever made him the way he is even though Tanya saved him from cancer; Cameron and his Madoff bros inducting Ethan in too; Nonno, Dom, and Alvie and their Society of the Male Gaze. Sure the women had their own issues, but none of them were part of groups that had the same base malevolence as what was going on with the men. Lucia and her friend were grifting but somehow it was nicer; maybe that's my bias as a woman ha.

Greg was clearly IN their gay mafia. Something like this doesn't randomly go down. This was a targeted shakedown from the very get-go. Look at how the brute rent boy was swinging both when he helped them scam. Greg was doing the same.

Haley Lu Richardson (Portia) has a great compilation of instagram stories. Looks like the cast really clicked and had a great time.

Comic gold mixed in with the drama

Did you interpret this look as something like "omg she still doesn't get it even after the picture yes your husband is my gay lover" or "how can she be so self-absorbed when I'm dying she's the worst amirite?" Or some combo of the two.

I'm the PP above and I'm still trying to figure out of Greg and Quentin were lovers or just doing a deal for the money. Wondering if Mike White said anything about that. Thank you!

My guess in Quinton still loved Greg and did this all for Greg (and the money) and the look was more of your husband wanted you dead and you want to know if he had an affair.
