It is not impossible. FCPS facilities did Coates pre BRAC so essentially you saw K-6 counts generated. Crossfield was not in consideration so if logic prevailed it would have been off for Skyview. That happened in the final. What didn't happen was movement into Westfield from Chantilly and Centreville working from FCPS generated totals on non Coates boundary process SPAs. Those totals are still online for the discarded options ABCD. Focus on Option B which is closest to the final recommendation. https://www.fcps.edu/system/files/forms/2025-10/western_high_school_options.pdf FCPS school board members have used language like "outside study scope area" to politically remove some areas that could get changed BUT that was customarily presented with data confirming why. Why meant existing available capacity at contiguous sites or lack of sites for dominoes. So like BRAC working off 105% with modulars this is not normal for FCPS. Politicians have removed specific areas from the scope of study??? That's why McElveen and Moon need to activate themselves. Both were around for the 2019 Mclean study which used that language and the FCPS report on meetings was more thorough than what is out now for a new high school opening. |
| Ryan and Moon have been not involved for Skyview boundary at all. I don't see them engaged or present at any boundary meetings. |
The current scenario leaves Centreville over capacity. Its a small building. |
I don't think losing 100- 150 students has the same effect on classes, electives and staff as losing 600-700 students. Overcrowding at Centreville was one of the reasons given for buying the new school. The current plan only moves out 70 kids and leaves it still overcrowded. |
Politically smart, I guess. |
How many kids do you think is reasonable to move out of Centreville? |
You think it's word salad? You, friends, relatives live in residences currently assigned to Chantilly and Centreville that reasonable people would move to Westfield? FYI there was a period when FCPS CIPs showed spread sheets on contiguous boundaries. Got scrapped because it showed some obvious moves. Look at a FCPS maps and you figure out where it can find students for Westfield. |
So that’s your strategy - don’t screw Westfield, keep screwing those smaller schools with less capacity? Even when there’s a plan to renovate and expand Centreville? That’s basically reverting to the first set proposals that they tossed out. Good luck with that. |

I think Westfield is (reasonably) freaking out in part bc they are not confident they will even be left with a mere 2083 kids when its all said and done. Not moving back the Brookfield kids is a huge injustice to them, and the Cub Run/Walney people are pitching tantrums.
2083 kids with a 40-50% FARMs rate means losing a lot of APs and electives. I can't imagine how bad that would be with 1800 kids. |
Westfield is already getting screwed, now the conversation is about the magnitude of the screwing. What do you think is a reasonable number to leave at Centreville? |
No, multiple proposals had all of Bull Run moving over to Westfield. PP is suggesting leaving the areas by Centre Ridge at Centreville, and moving the distant areas. |
Centreville has lost 400 kids over the past few years. Pull several hundred more out as originally floated and the cumulative impact is equal to what may happen at Westfield, plus Centreville would have 300 fewer students. You are not going to get what you want at Westfield by gutting Centreville. |
|
Even if Centreville is expanded, the capacity won't be there until the next round of boundary adjustments. They can't even reach an agreement with the county on the plans. Extra seats there are many years away.

How is losing 100 kids the same as losing 600 kids? |
What areas do you think make sense to be moved out of Centreville to Westfield to reduce the overcrowding at Centreville? |
