Has MCSL announced what they are doing this summer?

Not quite. They have provided a detailed plan that allows practices with 6 kids per lane that has been approved by the county apparently. Likely a non-starter with our club since it prohibits spectators. No word on meets but there’s an A rep meeting tonight so maybe we’ll hear more?

Thanks for this update! I haven’t seen much from MCSL, so it’s nice to know there is some progress being made. Has there been any thought to allowing spectators that have been vaccinated?

Because of varying deck sizes and set ups the NVSL is leaving the decision about spectators up to each pool.

6 kids in a lane isn't safe.

Evidence? I haven’t heard of any cases of transmission due to swimming.

MoCo updated pool reopening guidelines - still 50% capacity based on pool surface area, 6 feet distancing requirement and specifically prohibits meets unless venue has a letter of approval. Hard to imagine how a meet could be held with the distancing requirements, and hard to believe the county refs would specifically prohibit meets but then whole leagues would be exempted by obtaining a “letter of approval.”

^ county regs not refs!

Hopefully the regs are further updated as we get closer to summer. Could easily run a normal dual meet if you require all adult volunteers (eg timers) to be vaccinated, plus other minor changes (masks, distancing). But since this is MoCo I’m sure they won’t be reasonable and will make up a bunch of arbitrary rules.

Didn’t PVS clubs get exemptions of some sort? You’d think MCSL could get similar.

But Elrich and co are mental so who knows.

6 ft apart outside at a pool during the summer when most adults will have been vaccinated, but the CDC says unvaccinated kids can be 3 ft apart inside at school. Makes total sense 🙄

Unless Virginia changes things, I expect 10’ apart outside unless with family and masks on deck.

They did, and MCSL has gotten similar allowances for practices. For meets, I don’t think PVS has run any meets in MoCo.

Agree Elrich is loco

Have you seen the description of how this will work? Kids are never standing in, entering or exiting the water near each other. We’ve been spacing 4 per lane indoors for months, they figured with similar spacing guidelines up to 6 would be acceptable outdoors.
